After 20K miles on the 1250 GS & 1250GS ADV - A honest review

I’ll admit to having a grey beard ( when allowed by Swmbo ) I ride a new Goldwing. Got rid of the GS due to poor quality issues. The only part of your wish list I agree with is less weight.

1 trick pony, Mexico, sunny weather, tacos.

NO PICTURES, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!

I think Boxerlust is a WebBot that generates responses using a pre programmed set of criteria, he even provided them
- 1400 cc
- 165 hp @ 8500 rpm
- 155 nm @6000 rpm
- 230 kg wet with 24 liters on board
- Underseat exhaust for 2 full size bags
- real key for ignition & tank cap
- 17' CF wheels

With the occasional Mexico speeding ticket thrown in

Its been pumping out the same shite for months

An American with an ego the size of Trump's who doesn't take pics to show off to people? Bwahahahahahaha give me a break.

Maybe BMW are reading this forum, maybe they (like most of us) recognise that they already (mostly) make the best version of the bike that most of the buying population want. Sure, it's not a perfect motorcycle but I don't think one exists. The bike you want BMW to make simply isn't the bike the masses want. Sure they can improve it, and hopefully they will but the GS you want is not the GS that will sell in droves.

Have you considered Tweeting BMW or emailing them? I always find they are responsive to this? Perhaps share the results of such an endeavour....

Just stop entertaining / responding to the guy. I have him on ignore but I keep seeing his drivel as other people reply copying his quote.

Just ignore his pish; it’s obvious he is impervious to any reality / criticism.

You can imagine the design and development bods over in Germany
'So, whats the market looking like for the future? '

Well, 99.9% seem to just want decent power, economy and range but there's this one cockwomble in the States that thinks they all need huge power and claims to ride at 130 everywhere, but we don't actually know if he exists, he seems to be the only bloke on the planet who has failed to take any pics of his bike or trips....

Could be living in a bed sit in Gt Yarmouth, everyone can dream.

Where is Stick when you need him...:D
I have never seen such a bunch of boring old men that moan & whine more than most bitches I know...
This is a BMW GS ENTHUSIAST forum and not for 2 wheeled cabriolets like Goldwings, boring Africa Twins whose slow steering 21" front wheels bores you more than the 100 hp twin puts you to sleep or boys in late puberty that think KTM's are ready to race...:D
When I go to Mexico I RIDE like it's meant to be and don't take pictures like some posers on some ADV rider forum who are 99% as wild an adventurous as a de-nutted house cat ! There simply is no more adventure on this planet...Everything is regulated and civilized more or less and everything has been done by somebody else before in the year 2021...On the other hand there are still some places where you still can ride fast and enjoy the thrill of it without paying heavy fines or going to jail.As also
What is wrong with a bigger tank without going as big as the one one the ADV ?
What is wrong with a right size bag as big as the left one due to a different exhaust ?
What is wrong with a simple key for ignition and tank ?
What is wrong with more horsepower and a more exiting top end that KTM,Ducati and even more so the XR offers ?
Does Reggie get ridiculed when he puts a 17" front on the GS even if the factory could do it better offering a geometry that is more stable and giving more ground clearance and more horsepower to have a real 2 cylinder boxer weapon for the track ?
Nothing wrong with any of that :thumby:
B.t.w. I saw the new EU-5 R Nine T yesterday. With the new electronic throttle/throttlebodies.What a niece bike.So glad that the assholes in Brussels that want to turn europe into the Soviet Union 2.0 and trying to kill the economy and I.C.Engine have not killed the air-cooled boxer that according to my dealer still rides as strong and sounds as good as before:thumby:I'm glad BMW still has not fitted Telelever, still has tubed wheels and still offers no factory hard-bags for the R Nine T because otherwise I would have made the same mistake twice and bought another one like I did in 2016 :D While the R18 is collecting dust...No interest. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a BMW heavier than a Harley with no Telelever,no power and no sound does not sell ! Which makes you wonder what kind of people work and make the decisions @ BMW Motorrad...All I do is give free advice :thumb

I totally agree with you......on the ignition key. :beerjug:

NO PICTURES, IT NEVER HAPPENED!!

Thanks for the tip, sorted.

GSian...I let you know when I go again...Otherwise ask the 10 or so of your fellow countrymen I met in Loreto in spring 2019 riding with Nick Sanders down south who asked me if I had been in the Luftwaffe...:D From England but still good guys ;)
Davey so you prefer 136 hp to 165 hp,a 20 to a 24 l tank and a 39 l bag to a 44 l bag ! Great,because you already have the perfect bike :beerjug:
I have the same bike and I like it but I don't say like you it is perfect as it is...

When I go to Mexico I RIDE like it's meant to be and don't take pictures like some posers on some ADV rider forum who are 99% as wild an adventurous as a de-nutted house cat ! There simply is no more adventure left on the planet. :thumb

I’m not sure I’d agree with you about no adventure left after riding through Dagestan and Chechnya. Google those places, they make Mexico look tame.

Drinking with an ex Russian paratrooper in Siberia who served in Afghanistan.

Meeting teenagers with AK47’s in Tajikistan.

Being pulled by a cop in Bosnia for doing over twice the speed limit who wanted to talk bikes rather than speed limits.

Life is what you make of it, what’s adventure to some is ordinary to others and vice versa.

Unless your dad was Superman, your mother Wonder Woman, you taught the Navy Seals all they know, and can beat Marquez give the majority of us mere mortals a break and change the record please.

Kind regards.

Shaun.

asked me if I had been in the Luftwaffe...:D From England but still good guys ;)

Hahahaha, you just don't get the British irony do you? that was their way of saying you're a Space Cadet.

That's if it happened at all. NO PICTURES, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

Where is Stick when you need him...:D

Aha!

Some say he eats chimichangas made of raw monkey
Same say he can wheelie 100 miles at 135 whilst writing his memoirs
All we know is

You are Sticks American cousin :D

GSian...You were there and definitely knew what happened before on the road...Space Cadet...for sure :thumb
Flipfly...Sounds like Stick is the most interesting man in the world with skills like Carl Fogarty in his best days...I for sure would like to ride with him !
Shaun...What you call adventure does not interest me running into some washed up characters that killed for the interest of the elite of their respective countries or being in remote areas without decent infrastructure.
I like to go to Mexico because compared to the U.S. or EU it is still free...You can ride fast, have good food, friendly people, sunshine and great roads. That's all !
And yes I will change my tune when BMW comes out with the XR version of the 1300 GS ; The one with 160 hp and 17" wheels...Arsey knows what I'm talking about and I think Reggie and Stick too :thumby:
And for you pipe smokers who like to take pictures who think 136hp is enough you'll love the 24 L tank and bigger bag volume on the right side so your misses can bring the hair dryer & make up bag too ;)
And a R1300S as a modern version of the R1100S would be even more exiting !
I hope someone @ BMW is listening before they waste more time and money on Harleys with boxermotor nobody wants...The only stuff that sells here is the 1250GS,S1000XR and the S1000RR and the new M1000RR was already sold out in 25 minutes !!! The M1300GS will do the same if it gets 160 hp and 17" wheels :thumb

Erm.....no......I don’t have a fucking clue what you are talking about !!! :-)

Mexican Orangutang seen in the company of boxterlust :D:D
