Hi all,

I went ahead and ordered a set of Lennie's rocket sprockets, after reading all the reviews posted on
advrider. After 2 weeks, I got an mail notice and then ran to the postal office to collect these two sprockets:

Last weekend I planned to have them installed, along with the crash bar, a new lambda probe and a set
of Hella FF 50.

First thing was to have the valve covers removed...

Nothing hard so far. Then, I loosened the screws that hold the OEM sprockets in place, using an 8mm
Allen key. Had a friend press the rear wheel brake wile the engine was in 5th so that the engine was
locked and the screws came loose.

While the screws were still loose, I had the engine turned to top dead center and started to remove the
sprockets when the piston was at TDC on the compression stroke. Then replaced the sprocket with one
of Lennie's, then moved to the other side of the engine. Okay, I might have missed enumerating some
steps here but I had lots of help from the install PDF that Lennie provided, which I have uploaded here,
so it may help others too.

After all was done, I checked that the marks on the new sprockets are horizontal for each side while the
piston was at TDC and that the valves were loose on just one side, then rotated the rear wheel and they
were loose on the other side, just like for valve adjustment.

Then I put the valve covers back on, performed a TB sync (nut sure if necessary, but I did it anyway)
and put the fairings and seats back on.
It was time for a test ride.

Wow! The bike felt like totally new. It pulled better from lower rpm's and had more grunt in it. When I
switched from my 1100 GS to my current 1100RT, the first thing I noticed was that the RT was lazier
than the GS, I guess from the final drive ratio that the RT has and the extra weight that the RT carries.
With the new sprockets, the RT feels like the GS used to, faster and gave me more confidence in
overtakes. There are a bunch of other benefits in this sprockets, listed on Lennie's site, among which
fuel consumption, making sense to drop a little, since the bike does not need all that revving like before.

Did not get the chance yet to measure the fuel mileage but will do it an report back with some numbers.
Although this post may seem to you like advertising, it's not. I have no affiliation with Lennie, just
installed this set of his wonderful product and like to report to others, so that they can enjoy a new bike
feel as well.

If anyone interested, this is the link to Lennie's website: http://www.boxerperformance.
com/products.htm . I liked them and recommend having them installed on your beemer
too, definitely!

Thanks,
Dan.

Any updates on the value of the rocket sprockets?

Anyone else fitted them and found them to be worthwhile?

I fitted some to my 1100RT. I certainly noticed the bike pulling away with more grunt. However like most performance changes you just get used to it and stop noticing the difference.
I haven't experienced any increase in mpg. Most of my driving however is in town.
I bought a set of the 'Seconds' when the duscount was on offer and overall I am pleased with them!

Regards.

Fitted and brief review

Or my brief review below

First off thanks Lennie - from payment to delivery was 5 working days, that's good service from halfway around the world.

I finally got around to fitting the new sprockets, installing the sprockets is not a difficult job to do just fiddly it took me 5 hours ish but that was on my own taking it really carefully. All in all with all the injector & Throttle body o rings etc it cost me £140 ish.

Over the weekend i've done around 250 miles mostly minor and B roads, its the first time I've been out since I fitted the cam sprockets and I was unsure of what to expect. By nature I'm a realist and rarely expect reality to live up to the hype and have to say I wasn't really expecting big things from them however I have to say I'm quite impressed by the results.

Noticeable increase in bottom end torque, it seems to pull a gear higher in any given situation, for example previous 3rd gear roundabouts can now be taken in fourth and they certainly make the bike more responsive at the speeds I ride (50-90 mph range). I would imagine you'd really notice the extra low down torque with a pillion on board.

Definite increase in fuel mileage 52.5mpg over 207 miles of fairly spirited riding, measured using full tank to full tank method. Compared to the previous fill up which had been 43.5mpg not exactly the same sort of riding agreed but I genuinely believe i'll be seeing an improvement in the order of 10% - With the price of petrol nowadays averaging £1.40 a litre in the UK I'm expecting them to pay for themselves fairly quickly.

Low speed running is massively improved no surging at sub 30 mph speeds regardless of what gear your in, its worth mentioning that my bike has always surged at low speeds so this is a big bonus for me. TBH the low speed surging has been an issue since i've had the bike. After a service it improves slightly but soon goes back to where it was so this improvement in low speed running was an unexpected but very welcome bonus.

Overall I'm pleased with the way its worked out, I would say the improvement in ride\responsiveness with normal throttle use is quite subtle a bit like fitting good quality suspension you seem to go that bit quicker that bit easier but it takes time to adjust and dial into it however if you give it a proper twist its more noticeable and makes the bike feel substantially quicker - its made a nice bike that bit more fun and the additional fuel economy should recover the cost of the sprockets over time.

Hi Lennie,

V. pleased with mine (in the short period I had before hibernation). Full testing will commence shortly...

I imagine they've become a bit cheaper thanks to China's slow down etc.
Yep, just had a look GBP AUD is heading for 2:1.
