AFTERMARKET LEVERS - desire for less travel

Nutty, would you happen to know if the HP Clutch lever for an SXR would fit a 16 GS?

That's made me recall when I put the GSA in for it's first servcice, I took an S1000R demo out for a spin from the dealer and the lever travel on that was fine. I had asked that the brakes were checked on that service and it cam back to me as 'all fine sir', but chalk and cheese with lever travel. Maybe it's (excess travel) built in to the GSA for a purpose?

Funny you say that because I think it's the opposite. My GS is fine for lever travel but I am a bling whore so will probably get levers even though I don't think I need them.

The clutch lever on the S1000R is non adjustable and the bite is very far out so to me adjustable levers are a must.

I went back to the standard brake lever, as the HP one had too much travel before the brakes bit.....
 
I'm struggling to get my head around finding reduced lever travel by simply changing the lever!
If the pivot point remains the same then the leverage is the same, any adjustments possible presumably simply brings the lever closer to the bar?

The HP levers on my XR are also a massive improvement. I certainly don't have the issue with travel on the brake lever you mentioned.:nenau
 
Maybe they have changed them, as it was very noticeable, and you can see why when you compare them with the stocker:

The actuating arm - the bit that actually pushes on the piston - is much shorter on the HP lever...

Jim Voden.. ( not the correct spelling me thinks ) sells CDs about bike maintenance. They are well thought off in the US.
 
My twopennorth for what it's worth (2016 GS - not GSA)

I have arthritis in my hands and I do not enjoy the feel of the stock levers so I've been working on this for a while now.

On my R1200R I fitted some of the cheap chinese made levers you see on ebay (I had them up for sale here for a while) and they were excellent. It's taken a while to find similar items for the new bike but I eventually found some and took the plunge. Unfortunately, they turned out to be shorty levers and they didn't work for me so what I have elected to do is put the levers from the chinese 12R set onto the actuating bit of the chinese shorties. I've needed to do some judicious filing and shaping to get the two chinese sub parts to fit but my front brake level is now far more to my liking.

Unfortunately, the shaping on the clutch actuator part isn't quite right and while the clutch works fine, it doesn't operate the upper (second) micro switch which is required to change the riding modes.

I've gone back to the original clutch lever for now and the chinese one is on the bench waiting for the metal epoxy to set and for me to come out of hospital before I can start working on its final shape.

A lot of faff for £25 levers but if I can avoid paying out 2x £95 for those sexy HP2 levers or 2x £110 for the Touratech equivalent then I'll be chuffed.

If they don't work out then I think the HP2 version looks like the best option as it appears to give continuous adjustment over the range rather than pre-set clicks.
