Definitely seems to be trickier on this new bike. I have the SW Motech adventure rack fitted which obviously meant I needed to remove the OEM one. Fits great. My Lone Rider pannier racks arrived this morning and as I feared the rear mounting point for the pannier racks fouls one of the cross members/braces of the SW Motech rear rack so fitting together is a no no.

I have a feeling this might be the case with the Bumot ones too so it seems it's a bit harder to "mix n match".

I'm sure this won't come as a surprise to many, but I was kinda hoping the mounting options wouldn't mean you'd have to stick to one brand entirely. On the old bike I had SW Motech top box and rack with the OEM pannier racks.

Gonna either have to go all one brand, or go OEM rear rack with either the Vario top box or go the Givi route, then I can have the Lone Rider pannier racks installed.

Pro side carriers I have fitted and works so well along side the SW adventure rack , and also de mounts in seconds so the bike looks standard without the scaffold and the rear rack looks good as well.
This may not suit your issue but the system is good , but I did buy the top box and panniers and racks as a set as the 1300 standard sets are a bit . well errrr

Yeah I'm just not a fan of the SW Motech soft luggage so I was gonna go either Bumot again or Lone Rider

The easy option would be to put the OEM rack back on and go the Givi route, there’s a good choice of boxes depending on what you want / need

That would let you fit probably any aftermarket pannier system you want

The OEM rack also looks good (in my opinion) and I have confirmation that the pillion grab handles are good if that’s a consideration for you

Guess you don’t want to go with the Trax aluminum boxes ?

Yep I tried that last night and while removing 2 of the SW Motech cheese bolts the heads rounded off completely 🤦‍♂️

So I currently cannot remove the SW Motech rear rack to put the OEM one back on, nor can I fit the SW Motech pannier racks (if I bought them) cause I'd still need to get these damn bolts out.

Which bolts .?

If it was my bike I would wait until BMW comes out with their aluminum bags...So far with the same key for that alone they have been always the best solution ! Made by Touratech beating their stuff by the BMW lock/key...IMHO

I've managed to get the stuck bolts out, needed a pair of molgrips on them to free them, the SW Motech bolts are a bit shite compared to previous stuff I've had off them.

BMW luggage rack is refitted as is the Lone Rider pannier racks.

Now just need a top box, the Givi adapter plate isn't available anywhere in the UK except a website Branded Biker who never answer the phone. And the BMW Vario top case is out of stock with no estimated lead time able to be given.

I have just had a call from my dealer and the BMW Vario top case has been withdrawn, too many problems with it, they have offered a Givi option. Still thinking about it as the bike isn't due until April.

Just spoke with Virtu at Shipley and yes there is an issue with the top box, so it looks like i'll be without one when its delivered mid March, wife not happy !! I really do regret selling my 1250 should have waited another year.

Hi Mate, as there is a stop on the vario top box and no info on when it will be available (my wife won't travel without one) am i right in thinking i can fit a Givi top box to the vario rack with some adaption and keep the vario panniers as i only use them when on tour, the top box is on all the time .Id consider different panniers but don't like all the scaffolding.Cheers

What size is your Givi top box ? Is it the Trekker ?
