Air filter service ...... overdue 😳

Never changed the oil in the rear diff of any car I have ever owned either, 1 with 650,000 miles on it. Car diffs have far greater loadings on them. Oil change requirements only came about because BMW got something wrong in manugfacture or assembly process and it became an ass covering process.
You're probably right. On my old ST1100 I changed the bevel gear oil once in 140k miles. But it wasn't a single sided affair.

I'm had the paranoia bug installed into me. So I change it once a year as I tend to do the same miles each year.

I think its more another opportunity to fleece cash out of some mug.... it basically does nothing so why would it need doing every 12k, 40k would be early

the real issue is designed to fail build quality, it's been endemic in the german car and bikes game for 15 years, use plastic bearings and gears made of plasticine that have the appearance of metal for 5 years.... you've got to get them off the road faster.... so the factory can keep making the things that generate the real cash...

There is no doubt the drive is less reliable than it should be and the milage it fails at is unpredictable. All the more reason to look at oil and residuals regularly.
