Airhawk cushion for £15

Thats what I was thinking but nobody has properly answered my question . I guess if its too big I could just cut it to size ;)

I have also used mine on my XTZ660 (which has a very narrow seat) and also my Triumph Sprint 900.

Really useful thread.

Will be fashioning my 'dead sheep' into a cover for what BMW have the audacity to call a seat, and have ordered 2 stadium cushions ( one for Beth when she goes pillion ).

Thanks for the heads up and for the direct link posted for puttnams.

Will be posting a report when its been tested 2 up.
:)

Puthams botty pillow.

Got it this morning and am sitting on it as I type. Rushing off to the garage to try it on the GSA in two ticks. Will try different inflations :augie to see what works best.

Oh, its Exciting!

Anyone got any news on how they are, just ordered two, wont pay Airhawk prices (not yet anyway) just remember how uncomfortable it was on the 650GS after riding back from, the Czech Republic in one day, got to be worth a few quid in 'development fees' :) :)

If I've done this right the above link should be to the manufacturer who sell direct at half the price

Many thanks for the link. I ordered one yesterday and it arrived today. Excellent turnaround on the order by Putnams.

The pad seems well made, we'll see how good it is in use this coming week. I don't use a sheepskin or anything similar so may get the wife to knock up a thin fabric cover with elastic straps to go over the pad so I can easily mount it more securely.

Either way its a bargain. I just sent Putnams a message suggesting they could enhance it for bike purposes by giving the cushions adjustable straps on each corner for mounting. Not sure if they'd take up the opportunity, but its got to be worth breaking the airhawk monopoly.

The ease of removal is something I have been thinking about. I reckon what would be ideal is a pair of straps which go completely round the seat and stay in place all the time. These should have little female clips on at the sides of the seat and the male ones are on the cushion. 5 seconds to remove and 10 seconds to refit I reckon.

I've just prised off the 4 plastic poppers and they've left tidy & neat holes, so I'll try tying some elastic between each hole and somewhere on the bike to see how well that secures the cushion in place.

Either way I'm happy because the cushion should do much the same as the Airhawk, but at a tiny fraction of the price.

Thanks very much for posting this item on the forum.

I had a very nasty bike accident a while ago and broke my back and while I was at it I also broke my arse which means that hard surfaces are extremely painful for me to sit on for any length of time so this item is actually going to have quite a lot of uses for me.

Thanks again for the heads up!

This is what I am doing.

The seat is under a sheepskin and its soft! Putting two bits of webbing on the skin to keep it in place which should keep the cushion also in place.

Have just fitted my Putnams and did what Mcpherson was going to do.

I modified a cargo net, by taking off the clips and shortening the elastic on the rear mounts the metal hooks were long enough to go straight through the front holes of the seat and clip under the main seat, works a treat can't wait to try a long run see pics below:thumb2 A lot lot cheaper than trying the Airhawk, £6.95 plus cargo net which I had anyway, what a result.

Fantastic fantastic value; got mine couple of days ago and was wondering what to do for fixing; the cushion fits my 1200 seat as if it were shaped/designed for the job:thumb2

The only problem i have is that the testing will have to be done in the garage static - dvla withdrew my licence on temp basis due to medical prob :blast

Not happy but hopefully back in business before xmas - when someone has given it a good test let me know.

Got mine but can't find my SD card reader to upload the images from me phone...

Brilliant cushion, ok i need to fasten it down & make sure its well underflated or its like the bike shoots off then i catch up :bounce1 with it a meter down the road. lol

Spread the word there is cheap alternatives!!!11

:beerjug:

Well just ordered another cushion today!

Was sewing straps onto my sheep skin to keep it in place and well came up with the genius idea of tacking the strap to the sheepskin and forgot the cushion was under it.

Still at £10 not too annoyed, would have been with an airhawk!

Must have been a marginally less painful experience than Zeebrugge to Brno in one day on a DR800. :toungincheek

If only they'd had a air cushion back then....
