Just finished an 8 k holiday and the old ass started to hurt towards the end. Thinking of getting an airhawk seat cover. Has anyone got any thoughts ..... about the seat not my ass.

Also there is a new budget version - are they any good or should I get the original.

Yes they are very good. I've had gel and sheepskin but nothing comes close to an airhawk IMO.

The budget one is just as comfortable but nowhere near as durable. I think the 'full fat' version is the way to go.

Either way they do a money back guarantee so if you don't get on with it you can get your cash back.

hope that helps

better if you post this in the right section :)
i've moved it to Equipment & Toys ;) Tuned

I've tried gel inserts in the seats plus a second seat and was still cripppled after only 150 miles . With an Airhawk medium cruiser seat pad fitted (neoprene type) I can easily manage 550 miles in a day .
They are very good, so much so that I bought a second one from the for sale ads to put on the pillion for my wife.

I've done 620 miles on an full-fat Airhawk on a GS12 in one day, and was still walking at the end of it; yet 350 without will leave me aching.

I must admit to being tempted, but am concerned about ride height. I'm already on tippey toe when stationary on a GS with a low cut seat. Will an airhawk make my touching terra firma impossible?
If not, where's the best place to buy them?

I think you'll be fine so long as you adjust it properly; the Airhawk is not meant to be inflated hard like a swimmingpool lilo.

The proper amount of air is "just enough to take up the slack between your arse and the seat" - so I inflate mine, sit on it on the bike, deflate it until I can start to feel the seat *through* the Airhawk, then play with it a bit - add a little air, drain a little more, etc.

In the end it looks like a soggy rubber pizza, but it's very comfy.

BykeBitz in Yateley, Hants (http://www.bykebitz.co.uk) are the approved UK importers and always have a good range in stock ...

sorry peter - just saw this one again..

I agree with alecmuffett and silvermog.

You need a lot less air than you think and it doesn't make a dramatic difference to ride height.

There was also some discount you can get from it if you get the globebusters brochure code (free!) can't remember the amount but at least 10% off

Aaargh! Just ordered one for £129.99 + £7.99 P&P before I saw the reply! :(
Thanks anyway Schiannini. Regards, Peter

Ive just bought one of these through an Ebay auction, and I have to say that so far I am impressed by the substantial improvement in comfort over the std ADV seat (Its the neoprene version). I would endorse all of the above comments about correct pressures etc.

There is a slightly odd "remote" feeling when tipping into bends, as your weight compresses the sides of the cushion, but I dont find this a problem at touring speeds, and it is quite predictable.

My airhawk arrived on Saturday and it feels very comfy. However, just as I feared, I'm now REALLY on tippey toe (maybe I should get platform shoes!!). Once I'm on the move I'm sure I'd be fine, but I know that if there is a little adverse camber when I come to a halt I'm going to be on my side. Even with a low cut seat on a GS I'm probably at the limit of my ability to stretch to the deck (that's what comes of being a short arse I guess!). So have really mixed feelings about whether to keep it or return it.

I'm told that there are gel pads available that are made up from a variety of hexagonal shapes which are claimed to be as good as airhawk. There are motorcycle seat specialists who claim that these can be fitted into seats (customising the seat). My source is not particularly reliable, but I'd be interested to hear others views on gel pads.........
