Just been out for a few hours today and the back of my jacket is minging with road crap. Does the rear extended crud catcher work, the one that goes under the number plate and can get from NN and Cymarc?

Also, I have the pyramid fender extender fitted which doesn't do much. Does the front crud catcher prevent more crap from covering the engine?

I don't mind a dirty bike or washing it when I get home but every little helps

Good to hear, will get one ordered. The rear anyone? I don't think that plastic mudguard over the back wheel does much either.

A mudsling at the back works the front fender extenda type still allows the exhaust link pipe to get covered in crud.

Steve, I have the mudsling fitted instead of the shock cover and yeah it does a good job in that area but here is a lot of dirt on the back of my jacket, on the pillion seat and rear light/number plate. just wondered if the few inches on the extended rear crud catcher stops the spray from coming up?

That's because it's not a mudguard :blast

It's a piece of plastic put on purely so that German reg bikes will pass their TUV, which says something along the lines of 'Achtung, you must haff a piece of bodyverk behind ze edge of ze back wheel"

all it's good for in reality is sticking your GB sticker to. :thumb2

And for deflecting road crap forwards.

I had one of those apparently useless little extender things under the number plate on my GSA and it was surprisingly effective. You can make your own from a 99p B&Q plastic roller tray.

Can you put the front crud catcher on easily I mean does the bolts need torqin?

And there's a thread here that dates back to the age of the dinosaurs about a rear mudguard jobby made out of a 99p rubber mat from Halfords too :thumb2

Pennymods rock :JB

Yeah but I like the R1200 GSA cut out on it just in case i forget what I'm riding:D

Everything on sale claims that it does a remarkable job of what it was designed to do, but in reality some of it is crap and better off without it (pyramid extender fender for one )

Fender extender, crud catcher and mudsling on mine, yea the back of the bike does get dirty but I've not had road muck on the back of my jacket.:thumb

It could be a low pressure vacuum effect from been behind the screen drawing the road spray to the back of your jacket. I have not noticed the back of my jacket getting and dirtier than the front but I an yet to ride at speed for any length of time in poor weather on the bike.

Here is a couple of pictures after going down some roads that had a covering of wet mud on them it gives a good idea of where the spray goes the bike was spotless before setting off :-(
