Airhead 80-100 G/S Adventure Build

Hi Durneyj, thanks for the compliment!

After the grief I had with the Guzzi I built recently it was with some trepidation that I bought a Motorworks core loom.

In fact it’s ideal, really nicely made and good quality connectors. So I’d be happy to recommend one. Some of the little bits and pieces I’ll make up myself.

Nin ...cuse my ignorance but can you explain what a core loom is plesae....ta

That sounds ideal! I was hoping for a recommendation for the loom. Seems to be a lot of dubious quality stuff on eBay

Hi Charlie, I meant the “wiring harness sector chassis” - no 2 in the pic below with all the relay connectors on it.

Now then, seats. I’m going for a 2/3rds length seat cos I’m a lanky one. And this bike is in the “Adventure” mould, not an enduro. So needs to be comfy.

I have these options:

So do I extend the single seat, or shorten the original?

Base plate of the single seat is metal, so it’s relatively simple to add 7-10 cm to it.

It’s also a bit wider - so that’s the preference at the moment.

I think shortening the plastic would weaken it, but you could build strengthening in to the steel extension.

Another busy Saturday, but not much to show for it.

First the Migsel side stand went on. Of course it fouls the 2:2 silencer so needs a little spacer piece added to the bracket.

Then round the other side, needed to fabricate some brackets for the coil and ignition module, some muppet had the originals removed.

A little more progress. Finally managed to get the oil cooler mount sorted, and went with the cut down mudguard in the end.

And this with the mudguard brace just offered up for now.

How safe is that oil rad, or how effective will it be when filled with crap. Mine was higher

You use to be able to buy a oil rad bypass pipe to use if the rad ever got damaged

…just had a look to see if I had a picture, none are really clear but you can see it here. Looks wider and thinner than yours

....not that I know much about rads but that bypass backup sounds a good idea

Have you thought about mounting it above the mudguard like an 1150GS, or around the headstock like an XR400?

Good advice folks, thanks. It’s a starting point and fully expect it to change and evolve. It’s not too far off the position of yours Wreford, just the guard around it and the cut down mudguard make it look a bit lower.

The hose runs are rubbish as well btw!

Oil Cooler

Just for info, this is where it sits on the HPN.

Hours of work for little visible reward:

Cables on, crash bars on then off again - don’t like em.
