i think i need to mop up the excess brake fluid off the tyre sometime though

Proff, fancy riding down Sherborne high street or whatever on that......now that would be an experience.....worth a few quid!

but I think that I would still go for the para

A high street is the perfect place for a paralever!

Let's look at the points of failure:

I just do not see real long distance touring on/off road as a good environment for the paralever. The driveling itself fails, the mount onto the trans is delicate, the bikes must be split in half to replace a clutch, and if it falls over, the trans case cracks....

A merkin with a sense of humour (and an anorak) :clap :clap :clap :D

"Merkin" is that like; pommy, sassenach, limey, rosbif, rooinek, Angrez, Angrej, Anggrit, Firang, Sayip, Firangi, Englandi, Gora, Sayyip, John Bull, tommy, brit, redcoat, Brittunculi, Igirisu and Yīngguó?

That's so nice - Can I come to LA and ride it in Baja Pleaseeeeee ?

House swap holiday - Bike swap holiday

In return you can use this one :-)

Shamless ask I know but hey if you don't ask etc etc...:thumb

Actually, doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

No. That would be Yank, Septic Tank etc etc. Merkin is just a lazy spelling. :D

Have you contacted BMW and informed them of the fact people could die in lonely hot deserts and their m/cs could all do a million miles if only they hadn't listened to their engineers and ditched monolevers for paralevers cgoodwin? I think BMW should be told :D

The Paralever has a life expectancy off road of less than 40K, why would anyone make an off road tourer with a driveline that fails in Dara Salam? The monolever has historically lasted for hundreds of thousands of miles and can be services in the field with a single wrench. The Paralever housing where ti meets the trans is so weak that dropping the bike on that side will break the trans... This is an off road trourer! Leave the paralever on the road bikes, they look neat, but have no place on a real off road touring bike.

How would you like to have your Paralever fail here in 130F heat on a road that gets travelled twice a year?
