Airhead lightweight pull carby springs

The back of my wrists ache on long rides due to the heavy pull of the carb springs on my GSPD so I was pleased to located these replacements.

Just fitted them and what a difference it makes!

Which ones did you order?

SWMBO is just about to move on to a 100GS and a lighter throttle would very likely be a benefit to her.

From their web page I guess she'll need the "312"

32mm carbs thru '78 take the '908' spring. '79 and on 32mm take the '606 '. All 40mm are the '312'. Check yours to make sure
 
You guys may also find that the vase from the VW Beatle dashboard will also fit your handlebars. You can put flowers on your bars, will make your bikes look really pretty:kissy2

Aren't there low friction cables available? I would be inclined to fit these first.

I predict a 'My throttle sticks open' thread in the near future. :rob
 
I'm so ashamed to be associated with all you limp wristed tossers.

Of course I've never had a problem with throttle springs. Us Midlander's are clearly made of sterner stuff than the rest of you softies.

Interesting to see it's always the Aussies leading the way when it comes to anything Lightweight :toungincheek
 
I have always found that regular exercise of the right hand does the trick !!!
Who needs weaker springs !

The throttle saps back closed without any problem its just a pain in the wrist keeping it open.

I predict a surge of "Bullworker" found in my Carb threads coming in the near future myself:augie
 
in an attempt to actually help....... :augie

my Airhead had a wonderful smooth action.

it was pristine when i got it from the nice German chap in Frankfurt.
i wondered at the throttle as it was so Much Better than any of my previous beemers.
i took it apart to see why.

the only difference was both the 'Bar and the inner of the throttle tube was smooth, unmarked, no scratches, grooves or uneven wear.
like it was new :confused:.

the Bike does has some (alleged - unconfirmed but possibly true) history of being owned by BMW themselves and put to some use - not a demo bike - it was the factory that owned it / not a shop.

so, the point being - the only thing i can think of is extra care was used in assembly :nenau.

i let that care slip a little and wasn't as ...prompt with the labour of cleaning and lubing. :blast

now it's like any other Airhead beemer - only lightly tarnished / scratched but that light smooothness is gone. :(

Compared to some of the other bikes I've owned I find the throttle action light. On my Guzzi it was like pulling an anchor up. I do however reserve a special venom for the stock BMW grips that make it feel as if you are riding with oven gloves on even when wearing my summer gloves. On every beemer so far the stanley knife has struck early to replace the grips with some nice soft M/X skinny grips. Renthals are my favorite.:thumb2
 
Being a hamfisted rufty... I thought my Bertha felt normal, till I swapped bikes with Bubbles on a ride out.. He came back complaining bitterly about the stiffness of my throttle. I of course called him a wimp but had to admit, his PD did feel so much better.. I bought new cables and cant believe the improvement. :augie
