Now I’m kitting my lovely Basic up for a few trips, any views on luggage options?

My bike has what think are OEM luggage racks and tail rack. It came with a nice pair of BMW panniers, but they are not lockable and as we’ll be doing some tracks and trails it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that I’ll fall off and these look like they’d damage easily.

Previously I’ve always had Touratech style frames, and either hard luggage, or used these Kriega bags

Mrs Berins basic has Hepco and Becker racks, so has the very handy hepco top box and has used the Kriega bags above with the over the seat mount, but they are a right faff.

So, do I need to change the racks to Touratech style? Which ones would fit?
Or are there metal boxes that would fit the BMW racks that are on it?

And is there a top box that fits the BMW tail rack?

Use soft luggage ( the kreiga stuff is great imho)
That way, if/when you drop the bike, you don’t end up breaking stuff.

Save the nice bmw luggage for pure road trips would be my option ( and how I travel on my gs basic…)

Yes, that was my plan. Do you use the straps over the seat for the Kriega luggage?

On the basic, yes, I use straps over the seat.
On the r1300gs I have the sw motech quick release racks, and the plastic plates that the kreiga bags fit to.
I just cannot be arsed to fit the plastic plates to the basic ( and they would look shite without the bags attached)

Other soft bags are available ( but I like the kreiga stuff)

Tried and tested rugged overland motorcycle panniers. New Mk3 version updated in 2021. Simple. Tough. Modular.

I’d be fine to use my Kriega soft bags, which i guess means changing the frames.

Any ideas on where to get a set of 18mm tubed square TT style frames?
