Airhead Owners in France

Very, very nice :thumb2

Anorack question . . What motor & transmission does a Rowe Hillmaster have ???

Bob.

Maurice Rowe was an engineer in Dobwalls, Cornwall. He started building Lorrys to suit the steep hills and narrow lanes in Cornwall: ie narrow cabs and big engines. Rowe built the cabs and chassis, Customers could then specify there preferred engines and running gear from the major manufacturers. Rowe built 115 lorrys.

My Lorry has an AEC AV470 engine with an AEC gearbox and 10 ton Moss single-speed axle.

I'm in 26 Buis les Baronnies
R100GS in the garage in England, sold the Honda dominator bought a tiger for running to and from Provence. Superb bike for the money (2002 all the bits, full service history A1 condition £2,700). Don't want to put any more mileage on the R100.

Looks like there are enough forum members and Francophiles to set up a French event in the future: Frog Roast anyone?

I'm another one in 24 (north east near Hautefort). No vintage lorrys just a 1989 R100GS and 1981 R80G/S

Not such a bad idea, I have the space, the place and the interest

Good idea.....I was thinking along the same lines when I originally posted the thread............lets see how it builds.

There are also quite a few P & S members in 24 and 33 and around....including the Tech Sec.......the renown airhead expert!!!! (He lives in Daglan up near Sarlat)

I will give any airhead meetings a miss, I prefer my1200GSA (yes I know they are crap!) and I can't stand the smell of urine or pipe tobacco!:D

You would be invited as you are an airhead owner (come out of the closet), not sure if you smell of urine or tobacco but I can stink for both of us. We will try to arrange a meeting ASAP before your bike dissolves:augie

There is a good BMW R1200GS Oilhead breakdown service, with recovery vehicles, that constantly trawl the Autoroutes of France...I think that they have 10 such vehicles in the summer months and guarantee to get to you within a 12 hours ........their nickname, in English, is "final drive" as that is what happens to most 1200 owners when they venture more that 5 kms from home........they do very good business I believe..........so if we did see you...........you would probably be on the back of a recovery truck

I've had it three years now without any problems so maybe I can try going further than the shops on it? Wouldn't dare take it on the autoroute as it might rain and then it would melt:nenau:D
Pity that recovery vehicle wasn't around when my PD liquidised its FD!:D

You were obviously riding your PD improperly and are not riding your 1200 properly as they are supposed to break down, (regularly)

Have to get the bugger running first, haven't touched it in years, just chucked it into the corner of the garage! You are 200klm from me which would be too risky for the 12GSA and I don't have a twat suit to look the part whilst awaiting recovery. Maybe I will come up in the car! :D

Guilty as charged, I took it on what all the top guys on here call pistes??? We just called them dirt roads:nenau Wonder what I am doing wrong with the 1200? Maybe I should try some of the other gears and not stay in 1st all the time:nenau:D

Been thinking about organising a weekend meet at my place in June. Suggested on this thread as a sort of Francophile frog roast. I have 6 available bedrooms so space is not a problem for a get together.

As this is a personal meet and not business, it would be good to meet up with you lot, I would suggest a 15 euro per person per night to cover breakfast, beer etc. Maybe do a ride out and book a restaurant for a good nosh on one of the days.

I need to know if there is any interest on this.

OK redboots I'll let you come if you're a nice boy and no mention of Bolton

It just so happens that after the June Weekend "do" we [ me and the missus] will be meandering down frogland for a week or 4...

Would there be parking available for our Wobblybox or is there a "Camping Car" aire near you ?? ??
