Airhead Weekend - Reminder

Not long to go now. 10 days and counting down.

Confirmed attendees seem a bit down on previous years for whatever reason?

A few of the "regulars" are notable by their absense. I have had a few pm's advising of not being able to make it for various reasons but are there still a few possibles who are leaving it until the last minute?

Could it be I frightened some away after my moans about last minute cancellations and no-shows last year? Sorry if I did but all that's in the past.

Absolutely EVERYONE is welcome to come.

If numbers don't pickup a bit I could possibly open it up to NON-airheaders but only if it met with the approval of the current attendees.

What are the thoughts of the collective here?

As an airhead newb I may have little weight to add to the argument... but if it is open to others I'd appreciate it if a painter was to come to share trade secrets!

Out of curiosity, has the oilhead weekend taken off or still on the cards?

Sid, it's always been an Airhead weekend, but to attract newcomer who may be interested in the older bikes, I don't see why it couldn't be offered to "interested" parties.

Not much point in coming unless you like seeing bikes stripped down and rebuilt, but if that's your thing we may attract more newbies and inadvertently increase the resale value of our bikes (which can only be a good thing, hehehehe).

Maybe non Airheads should be forced to walk around with pipe, smoking jacket and slippers to get them into the spirit

Sid - is booking/paying in advance essential. Me and a mate (R1150R, sorry) might use the event as a shakedown for a trip are plannign to France, but we'd probably not turn up earlier than mid afternoon sat, camp sat nite, then leave mid morning sun.

Sorry about the date, I never realised when I moved the date from second weekend in June to the first. But Bank Holiday Weekend means all the more reason to have a weekend away enjoying yourself. People are always welcome to stay over until the Monday or beyond as a few have always done in the past. Also last year people began arriving from the Wednesday before so total flexibility on dates and times.

Re the bitching after last years event. Yes, I accept that but it was all resolved and we move on. As I have said many times, absolutely everyone is welcome this year, whether they are old regulars or newbies to airheads. This year there is no "Feck off if you don't own an airhead" rule so even if you are a potential airhead owner or simply want to come along to see what its all about then all are welcome.

I've taken on board some of the constructive criticisms from last concerning the lack of organisation in the workshop and will have a worksheet/workboard for each job task so everyone else knows exactly what should be being done to each bike. Any other constructive suggestions for improvements are always welcome.

Whether we have 20 or 40 people, I can guarantee that it will be an excellent weekend. Good food, good booze and excellent company.

If you get bored with looking at disassembled airheads then there are some cracking roads around here to ride. And don't forget we have 10 acres of woodland to play in with the quad and various off-road bikes.

I could also set up a MotoGymgkana/ GS Trophy type arena in the sand school if anyone wants to attempt that? [at your own risk, no liability on me if you break your neck etc].

No problem with last minute additions. The problem last year was simply that we catered for 50 people and had 20 cancel at last minute or not turn up so we had high levels of wastage which impacted on costs.

It is relatively easy to get last minute extras for food and drink etc so I don't mind if some people decide at the last minute if the weather looks nice on the Saturday morning Just don't complain if you face a slight delay with your food order. I'm just trying to make things as easy as possible for my expert chef, Sumprat. Some say his breakfasts are worth coming for even if you don't like airheads!

If we order too much beer and cider then I'll just have to drink it during the following week. Another good reason to stay over on the Monday?

It will be a great fun event.

I think (unfortunately) I've got the best excuse for not coming..............my eldest son is getting married on the Halkidiki peninsula (Greece for those who might wonder where?) despite my requesting an adjournment, so sorry, have a good time, next year? if!

Was hoping to sneak in at the last minute but unfortunately a massive double pulmonary embolism means that I have no chance of attending this year Have plenty of beer for Me and enjoy the ride because you never know when it may be your last Not sure when I will next ride as I will be stuck on warferin for a while. THE OLD GIRL IS NOT forsale until all avenues are exhausted Hopefully will make next year (providing it occours) and my blood has the ability to clot enough to allow me to risk riding

Wow, sorry to hear of your health problems.

Some amazing reasons for not being able to come. Seriously, thanks for letting me know as I was getting a bit paranoid that I had frightened everyone away.

Next years event will be the fifth so hopefully we can have a bigger and more spectacular event then and everyone will be back to full health by then.

Spoken to various people and although bookings are now up to a good level, I've decided to open it up to other interested parties and relax the "airhead owners only" rule. We might make all none owners do a compulsory lap of the sandschool on an airhead GS so that they can see what they are missing. We could also show them how you can give your bike a full service without paying several hundred pounds over to your local BMW dealer.
