Airoh S4 Beats Arai Tour X3

Kevan, where did you get the S4 from ? as I'm due a replacement helmet and like the peak of the TourX

Mickey Oates Motorcycles, Glasgow. www.mickeyoates.com

M & P had some on offer in the spring catalogue at £99.99 but MOM got some stock in which U tried and they ordered one in for me in the colour I wanted.

They were helpful so I chose to pay the £125.

Quite quiet, the peak doesn't rattle or lift when you do a lifesaver and the visor clarity is far better than my Sys5 pinlock, even before it got scratched and marked.

Great review

Airoh have been making quality MX lids for years. Always been well made.
Lots of drivel talked (including on here) about the Tour X. I happen to like them, but at the end of the day it's a £250 Arai V3 motocross lid with a visor in it and some tweaking (additions Arai charge you another £200 for the pleasure of - them being bastards and the world being full of idiots).
My road lid is a Thor MX jobbie which, if I recall, was £105. I happen to prefer goggles to a visor thanks to SM years. For sports-bikes I've had various things and latterly an HJC Ben Spies rep, which is wonderful. That'll emerge for the deep winter when it's just too cold for the chilly MX lid.
All that said, if Tour X3s were less stupidly expensive, I'd probably have one just because it does both (i.e. can be used with goggles and visor), but I'm not paying £350+ for what I know is a £250 helmet.

back to the question;

So anyone with an S4

Now you have had them a while, what are they like in the rain for leakage and misting????

Cheers

not perfect. quite bearable (for me anyhow) though.

leaking - slight ingress of droplets. nothing distracting. though i gaffer taped the inside of the 'mouth' vent as it created a little wind noise around the radio mic.
misting - not if i leave a 2mm gap / dont close the visor completely and open it while stopped.

i much prefer it to the Tour X - a tad lighter, Very stable at speed, much less neck ache, much more comfy.

but like the age old 'buffeting problem';
i think a lot depends on your height/posture/head angle/screen, if fitted and nose to chin measurement :pullface

~~
good luck :)

Like he said, very light and comfortable, much more so than my Arai Tour X.

The rain sealing is not as good as the Arai, a small amount of rain gets in the top of the visor in a torrential downpour, but nothing to worry about ot upset your riding

Venting is a bit too much in winter, but if you wear a polar buff then you won't notice it. great in summer

The peak on it is far superior to the peak on the Tour X, as it attached to the top of the helmet also with two half turn fasteners. there is absolutely no wind vibration from the peak, period, this is probably due to to the peak having channels on it which stiffens it up.

I've had mine a year and I'm still really pleased with it, give one a go you won't regret it.

Cheers

Andy
