Akrapovic Titanium Headers

Ti headers and no akra end can? Sin!

Interestingly, the Rizoma guards on the right hand side (left hand side as you look at the pictures above) needs a 5mm spacer on each bolt as the header pipe protrudes more than the other side.

Didn't know that :D

Nah, you really don't need a fancy end can unless you have £900 to literally throw away.

Being as though I've already spent around £10000 on bike related accessories this season, I'll wait another day for that farkle.

You can pick them up for around £400-500 on here, second hand.

The header guards look good, until the first few stone chips!

When a black Akrapovic End Can comes up for sale, I'll try and buy that. But you have to be lightening fast on here as they've usually sold in 0.00004 seconds.

I also like the powder coated standard exhaust anyways, it looks good in black and it's literally cheap as chips to keep it fresh looking. So if you accidentally drop your bike, or chip the exhaust, you can be back to absolutely mint condition again with £20 of fresh powder coat. You try doing that with a fancy £900 carbon/titanium end can :D

I figured on the guard stone chips that it'll be fairly easy to keep it touched up. Doesn't have to be mint, and every year just get them redone. Costs pennies.

We'll see how they hold up over winter. :beerjug:

EDIT: (interestingly, the powder coated BMW Bars that sit to the side of those Rizoma guards must get hit by stones as well, but there's absolutely no signs of chipping or marks.)

You need to stop pansying along and gas gas gas it! :-)

No, I need to do what I'm already doing and stay in front !!...... that's how you stop stone chips :D

Haha :beerjug:

Actually in all seriousness, I rarely go about 100 mph on this bike, so stone chips won't be a big problem.

£10,000  :blast I crown you King of farkles :bow:bow arise sir farkle of ukGSer :P:blast:D

I put Akra s/s headers on my 1250 GS this week knowing I'm scattering cash. I'm amazed how they have changed the fuelling for the better. At low speeds and mid range the throttle has more finesse and control. Engine spins up without restraint. Has it got more power...... no idea.

Was out today with the new titanium headers and I noticed these things.. and how it affects the 5 senses.

- Smell. Without the Cat cleaning the exhaust fumes, it smells acrid. :barf:comfort

- Taste. Titanium, yep it's definitely my taste in farkles. yum yum

- Touch. Weirdly, loosing 1.7kg of weight directly below my front Ohlins shock, made it feel harsh. So I had to back off Rebound & Compression 1 click. That's how sensitive to weight these Ohlins shocks are :green gri ... but doing that made it feel very good again.

- Sight. Looks the Dogs Bollox, from any angle, especially now it's blueing nicely :beerjug:

- Hearing. Sounds more throaty, but no increase in popping on overrun. No increase in noise at cruising speeds (which is a good thing). It sounds nice, very subtle.

.... I actually couldn't tell if there was more performance or not. Roads were too slippery in the morning.

Hopefully out again on a days ride on Monday. So will get a better idea then.

Ok, here's a sound difference comparison between

a) Akrapovic Titanium Headers

b) Standard BMW Headers

The end can is still the standard BMW one. Which sound do you prefer?

Within the limitations of the inbuilt speakers on my iMac, I prefer the OEM headers. I'd need to put the output into my amp and Tannoy speakers to get a truer representation.

However, I find that my Akrapovič stainless headers made a big difference to the overall feel of the bike. I've never ridden it with the BMW can on it as I had an Akrapovič one fitted out of the showroom.

Mine now feels much nicer to ride. With the Hilltop software and set in Dynamic mode it goes like a stabbed rat just by tickling the throttle. Throttle blipping on downchanges has the crank spinning up more like an
in-line four than a big old flat twin. It really is a hoot to ride now and all to the soundtrack of tearing calico.

On that note, I remember reading a comment about the difference in aural quality between the Ti pipes and the stainless ones and that due to the thinner wall tubing of the Ti pipes, they sound a bit more "tinny".

Maybe you could have saved yourself some money, bought the stainless headers and had a nicer sounding exhaust..... :augie

I agree, on the video I prefer the sound of the original headers. :thumb2

I'm also still not convinced I've actually LOST power.

I'll be out on a ride tomorrow so will get another feel for it then.... it'll also give another tank of fuel to settle the ECU in.

Having said all that, two of my mates told me it sounds much better than the old system, and they were riding with me that day. So maybe the digital world isn't replicating everything. :D

That doesn't read right.

What I'm trying to say is.... I'm not convinced, but I think I've actually LOST power.

I ran it through the rev range a couple of times, yes it makes a lot of noise, but also feels like torque has dropped. It felt VERY wheezy above 7000 rpm. Back pressure is very important on a bike, and I've lost mine.

Akrapovic is a pile of shit then :D

I think it'll need remapping for the full beans benefit.

Ordered the Akrapovic Titanium end can last night.

May as well complete the set.

Will be interesting to see if theres another noise change.

It's not a two stroke, you don't need back pressure, you need an outlet thats tuned to suite the exhaust pulses.
You've done the first half now take the the big plug off the other end. You need the end can to allow all that hot air out.
You won't get rid off the euro4 flat spot even with a remap.
A full system with remap makes the flatspot seem slighty worse as it improves things either side of it.
My bike pulls cleanly from 2000rpm and by 3000rpm is going full chat then loses its way a bit at 5500rpm after which it takes off from 6750rpm to the red line.
That why the '17 bike is not the Goldilocks model, eur3 fuelling responded well to remapping and gave a linear power curve.
