I am about to order a 1250GSA TE and need to decide on what silencer to get
I think the Akraprovic looks much better than the OEM and will save some weight.
However, I am past the age of wanting to make a racket and I prefer quiet, with my ear plugs tightly in place. So, for those of you that have the AK fitted, do you find the noise annoying. Do you ever regret getting the AK.
My Africa Twin Adventure Sports actually has a 'throaty' exhaust but it is only noticeable when accelerating hard.

I have the standard exhaust. Nephew has otherwise identical bike with Akra exhaust. Personally I think the standard looks better. His is much louder - if we ride close together I can hear his exhaust more than mine. It gets tiring listening to his bike. I'm very glad it's not on mine. The standard does make a nice noise when you open the throttle at high revs, but that tends to be not very much of the time so I enjoy that.

All very subjective, of course.

My vote for a Akra.

Some people love the sound. Some find it intrusive after a while. I followed a friend from Calais to Grenoble with a noisy exhaust one day and was ready to strangle him by the time we got there.

I have swapped the standard exhaust for an Akra on my 1250 and the noise to me sounds different but not louder.

With the baffles left in the Akrapovic I haven't noticed it to be any louder than the standard exhaust, haven't attempted removing the baffles

Interesting. I thought that the Akra looked better but after your post I have had another look and the std exh does actually suit the bike. the Akra looks like it belongs to a sports bike. Ohh, should I save £870.

My mate has a GS (1200 LC same as mine) with Akra. No performance gain in the can alone (his is "chipped" or "mapped or whatever, as well as the Akra, and still no difference in 5th and 6th gear roll-on tests on the motorway, but I am 4 stone lighter!). Noise does not seem that different until the motor is wound-up, and it seems to crack and bang more when using the quickshifter when hard on the gas... When wound-up the Akra is definitely louder... As Quinten says, when I am chasing him at wider throttle openings, I hear his bike more than mine!

I had intended to look for a used Akra for mine, but having seen the difference more closely, I'll save my cash for more trips ;) Also, he tends to run vario panniers most of the time, so you don't even see the can! (I tend to travel lighter if overnighting without pillion, with just a roll bag on the back seat)

Maybe later in life (post Warranty) if the exhaust "flaps" become troublesome, I may go for a full system to get rid of the flaps...Until then I'll be staying standard...

870 is a lot of fuel in bike. :D

Akra with the inserts out for me - sounds good.

The Akra's good, just a tad louder but a slightly deeper tone and more pop's on deceleration than the original. I personally like the look of both but much prefer the BMW Akra. There's not a great deal weight saving, less than I thought there would be when I bought the Akra. Best thing is to get the bike with a standard can and fit the Akra yourself. That way you get both. If you ask the dealer to supply the Akra, think they keep the standard one.

Thanks for all your posts. I started thinking that i would get the Akra, changed my mind now, its standard that will be going on.

I ordered an Akraprovic lately for my R1250GS but have been told they are hard to get. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the full AK system (Headers and back-box - no Cat) put on my 1250 GSA and it’s nice and throaty without being too loud; especially now that I have a brand new back box after the original leaked from behind the ceramic heat-shield - not ideal for an expensive item but all sorted now.

I did have the full Akra system on my bike. I have just put the stock can back on the Akra headers for noise reasons.
I was surprised that the stock can is similar in weight to the Akra can and is about 4" shorter. The noise is quite a bit quieter but still fruity enough.

Having had stock and akra twice on my 1200. The akra sounds nicer, not that much louder just nicer.
But a 2nd hand euro 3 for 500 notes and you can always sell it later. Bet you don't though. I sold mine and missed it so purchased another.
