I run a Akra stainless decat headers with the standard exhaust with the baffles in, its a little louder but not obnoxiously loud. The bike is a 2015 GS.
If you are going to be one of the types that rides around with panniers permanently on, you can’t see an Akrapovic behind a pannier
Also it’s not much lighter then stock, and the stock can is quite fruity
I have an Akrapovic but it came as part of my deal with the 1250, I’d not have gone out of my way to buy it, all said and done, it’s your money, £700 buys a lot of fuel though
I've had 3 with stock exhausts and never felt the need for anything noisier. Any small weight saving to be gained with the Akra is of little use on a bike that weighs a quarter of a tonne imo. It will however make your wallet a lot thinner
On two of my previous bikes, 2004 ATAS and 2008 Kawasaki GTR, I fitted aftermarket exhausts and removed them again as I could feel more vibrations. I put this down to the reduced mass of the sport silencers and the extra noise creating more vibes.
On my Hexhead I borrowed a baffle to try it in the Akra and I found myself riding faster on the motorway.... must have been because it was quieter and more comfortable at speed. I preferred it with baffle. OK there is a nice crack and pop on the overrun without it but real world long distance baffle all the way.
More volume and better sound - Akra EU-3 with DB-killers removed
Thinking about getting the Unit Garage 2 into 2 exhaust for my 1250 GS - More volume and deeper !
Stock is definitely too quiet...
I took Akrapovic of my new 1250 and just sold it as it was a tiresome drone on a longer ride. I am not against louder exhausts as I have an AR short can on my Superduke and although that's even louder than the Akrapovic was on my GSA it didn't bother me like the drone noise of the GSA. My GSA now has standard exhaust on it, however I did have it ceramic coated in satin black to suit my bike better as mines is the Exculsive 1250.
