Alarm fitted..3 days later dead battery...

Three years on 1200's, and never had an issue....... even when leaving the alarm on for three to four weeks at a time.

Oh, and the alarm doesn't switch off, it goes into a sleep mode. It'll still go off if someone moves the bike or uses an unauthorised key.

The battery certainly shouldn't be dead in that time. BUT let it serve as a warning...........the 1200GS does need an Optimate unless you're riding every day. Fit the optimate loom and plug in when left.

I'm on my second GS and the first one regularly got left for a week between rides parked up with the alarm on and I never had a problem with the battery.

Turns out...

...it was the battery. The bike was recovered by Mondo to NOG BMW, they tested the battery and was found to be faulty. A new battery has been installed and the bike is being returned.

Not necessarly fully on topic, but I bought a Solar Powered battery charger off Ebay less than £13.00 delivered. In 9 months has kept the original and now 3 year old battery spot on. This includes 5 weeks of bike outside in temperatures as low as -10 and started first turn.

18 month old 1200 gsa. 13K miles.

i ride my bike, i'd say roughly, weekly, and never use a battery charger. it starts fine, but did come close to failing once in extremely cold weather. been fine since.

i also have the bmw alarm which i rarely use, but has been left on for a couple of weeks in the past with no ill effects.
