ALARM FOBS ???

I wish they'd inform the dealers about this, I asked about one for my alarm this morning, The answer! most of the accessories are on back order,

From speaking to my dealer, BMW has been shite at informing them of anything:rob:blast

I'm not surprised

But why give me , with my instruction book and warranty book an anti theft alarm Instruction manual on how to use the Fob control DWA6 :blast
Same here. I got BMW alarm system manual telling me how to use the phantom fob. Still trying to get an answer from dealer.

Me too the manual is useless and tell you nothing about this "new" system. Been playing with menu all afternoon and still can only either turn alarm on or off ( still can't find how to change date to European format!)

Sounds like there's a need for a collective scream at dealers and BMW to get BMW to sort it out. I have written to BMW Motorrad as well as dealer and await reply.

That makes more sense. Dealer said he could't understand why the alarm didn't go off when he moved the bike (so I assume it's disabled), yet their Demo bike which also has an alarm, sounded when moved but hadn't worked out how to turn it off!!

I'll ask them to chase up the fobs then!! I don't fancy the rigmarole of turning it off the way you explained!
Did you get an alarm fob manual ? You should ask your dealer why all other GS LC buyers with Alarm have been given alarm manual for fob use and try to get him to get answer from BMW

Yep I got a manual for the alarm fob, but dealer didn't know why he had the manual, he just gave it to me! My dealer has already raised concerns about BMW's slow action on supplying accessories and has also asked about the fob situation. Seems to be a common problem.

Yep, I got the fob manual, with the "I don't know why I'm giving this to you" statement:blast

Just a thought.......... I wonder if they do supply fobs if you ask and then you might be able to programme the new fobs to the bike. I remember with my old K1200 you didn't get a spare key, just the little useless plastic one, but if you asked they'd get you a proper one foc. Might be BMW's way of trying to save money. Anyway I will ask dealer tomorrow.

Been thinking about this today and its quite ridiculous. Each year I have been fortunate to ride from Ireland to the Greek Islands. Lots of packing and unpacking the bike. So imagine. Top box full, panniers full. You need the key to open them. So how do you unpack your bike? Every time you want something from the bike go to the bike , insert key, find set up menu, find alarm menu, turn off alarm, pack unpack, lock boxes, insert key in ignition , find set up menu, find alarm, set alarm to on and off you go until your forget something and have to start all over again. Aaaaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhh......!!!!!!!!!!!!! BS
Some weeks ago my dealer told me that his BMW contact was sorting it. I hope he right.

BUMMER: EMAIL FROM BMW THIS MORNING:
Good morning Ed,
With the alarm on your bike there are no key fobs. The alarm is designed to passive arm each time the ignition is switched off.
Yes, this can be a real pain.
In the handbook there is a method of locking the bike so that the movement sensor does not activate. I don't have one to hand so I can't explain but it 'should' be simple.
Key fobs for bikes mainly came about because the alarms were made as a retro fit product by the Aftermarket accessory companies.
Now that bike manufacturers make there own factory fitted version the fob is seen as redundant, especially as the insurance companies insist that the systems passive arm.

** This is an email from a really helpful guy at BMW. He is on holiday until next week so dont want to pursue the issue with him right now but I will when he returns by requesting a refund for the alarm as its method of operation is not as one would expect and it is ridiculously inconvenient to turn on and off.

Thanks for the update. My dealer left me a voice message today saying they will investigate for me but it looks like you are one step ahead!

Reading the manual I can't find out how to turn just the movement sensor off, unless when you turn the DWA function off under settings, that just turns the sensor off but the alarm is still active and you can't turn the alarm completely off.

I tell you what is annoying it's when you're filling up with petrol, as unless you turn the alarm off through the settings (a real pain which even BMW acknowledge) it goes off on the forecourt (well it does if you sit astride whilst filling). I'm tempted to turn the damn thing off permanently!!

ONLY answer is to pressure BMW into supplying a fob or money back due to TOTAL IMPRACTICALITY of ALARM system in the way they implemented it.
Its really annoying in so many ways. Hope we get a result.

Yep especially considering the price! Not fit for purpose springs to mind

Does the key have to stay in the filler cap while it's open? If not you can open the filler then put the key back in the ignition while filling.

Good point, yes the key comes out so back in the ignition it has to go (so long as I remember to take it out again when I pay:augie )

That seems ridiculous. I can see the benefits of the alarm self arming, but filling up with petrol, wheeling the bike round the garage, and loading/ unloading luggage are the times you need a remote fob. Come on BMW, sort it out.:rob

Then you forget to remove key whilst paying or fuel and bike gets nicked and guess what your not insured because you left key on the bike.

My insurers covered bike knowing factory alarm is fitted if I start deactivating it for practical reasons created because I don't have fob I put any theft claim at risk.

The only way forward is to have said FOB and not allow BMW to fob us off.
