last year while riding through france on my 1150gs i stoped for petrol,,when i returned to the bike the alarm and imoboliser would not respond to the signal from the key fob tried the spare one this didnt work,,after removing the tank etc to check the wireing to said alarm/imob,,i eventualy phoned a mate for some advice and he suggested pushing the bike away from the petrol station which i did with the alarm sounding,,, once about a hundred yards from the petrol station the alarm responded and i was able to start the bike and resume my journey,,this same procedure had to be carried out everytime i stoped for fuel once having to push it about half a mile down a hard shoulder with the alarm going off,,,the alarm is a datatool system 3 ,,i did think of disconecting it but it is wired into the ecu,,has anyone ever disconected one of these or came across this problem ???and how did you get round it???

ive had the same problem but on ferries... very embarrassing being pushed off while a load of bikes waiting to go on. Same alarm on mine too.

i hate alarms, more trouble than they are worth IMO

One of the first things I had done to my bike was have the alarm/immobiler removed.

Yes - it is possible. but is something I would leave to a professional. Any dealership that supplies the things should be competent enough to remove them. (in theory)

If I were to have another alarm fitted - then I would choose one that made a loud noise but does absolutely nothing else.

It's not the alarm that's the problem. It's the wireless/phone antenna at petrol stations. It interfers with the alarm signal, and you have to move it out of range to get back to normal. Usually pushing it a bit further along or behind any solid buildings does the trick.

The problem seems to happen more on french forecourts than anywhere else.

datatool system 3 can be reset if it gets out of sink, thats not the same as the signal being blanketed on the ferry or forecourts, its when it just refuses to work anywhere!

you need to strip down the unit using security torx stars, get into the box and remove the pp3 battery (9v square type). Then short out the battery terminals to remove any charge left in the capacitors. Then put it all back together and it "should" work. Best to keep the correct size security torx in your toolkit. (security torx being the ones with the hole with the pin in the end of them)

System 3s have loads of problems and are notorious for being little b******.

Ive just got an el cheapo chinese thing on mine. I dont care about it being immobilised i just wanted someone to start going off if someone knocks against it.

Yes completely removed it a couple of weeks ago, 30 mins max, followed the wires from the datatool 3 back to the harness, its not connected to the ecu, cut them and recconected the same colour wires together using solder and heatshrink, had to extend one as it was now to short, theres really only about 4 connected, plus some you just snip, as they are attached to the indicators without the wires being cut, alarm was still squarking on the floor, so two seconds with a sledge hammer silenced it:augie
