Alarms on the bike

I have a 2007 GSA and done loads of work to it myself including a complete strip to do the clutch but never found the alarm.

When I bought the bike from a motorcycle dealer(not BMW) it came with 1 key the plastic wallet key and 2 alarm fobs.

When I tried the alarm fob no lights came on so I just thought the battery might be dead.

Ok I have owned the bike for over a year now and living in Guernsey no need for alarms, so got curious, stuck in a new battery but nothing happens, lights come on on the fob but nothing happens on the bike, so this leads me to think it has been removed by previous owner for some reason.

So where should the alarm be??

Also I bought a second key from local dealer and got told to take it back to them when key arrived to have it coded to the bike, guy came out and stuck key in bike and it worked straight off, he said it could of had the code thing removed or sometimes the bikes allow up to four keys, I found this strange but not overly concerned, I am of the attitude that I will always lock the bike when left when abroad but if they are really going to steel it they will, coded key or no coded key, same with the alarm.

I believe it's under the rear seat area. I think if you take off the undertray where the numberplate bolts on you can see it tucked in there. I have 2 new ones under warranty due to them going dead. Still might put off an opportunist

if thats where they are then mine has been removed as I took the rear undertray off when doing the clutch to split the bike.

Like said not bothered about the alarm I just want to get rid of the fobs, always kept them with me for the just in case moment, you know the one, I get rid of the fob and for some stupid reason the alarm activates itself and i have no way of turning it off lol.

Even if the alarm was to somehow activate itself (it can be programmed to self-arm after the ignition is switched off), it is always disarmed by simply switching on the ignition (with a correctly coded key, natch ) so no need for a working fob.

If the fob doesn't disarm it, it's either faulty or removed, or a non thatcham (therefore crap) alarm.

If it was faulty, it should 'failsafe' and immobilise the bike (thatcham regs)

You could start the bike with the key and a dead fob, and nothing happens with a re-powered fob, therefore, the alarm has been removed (or is a dead non thatcham device which has failed unsafely, unlikely)

Q.E.D.

Stick the fobs in the back of your 'odds and sods' kitchen drawer and never bother yourself about it again

BMW alarm never has been and probably never will beThatcham approved. It also doesn't have anything to do with the immobiliser. It's simply a tilt and vibration sensor that makes a feeble beep when tripped.

Has another quick look today so fobs are now in the back of the draw, they where BMW fobs so at one time there was an alarm fitted.

It was ordered from all the info BMW have on the bike, i.e all details such as frame engine numbers etc so what you say does make sence.
You would have thought the BMW mechanic would have known that though.

I've been tackling the same issue with my fob working but no response from the bike. I put a new battery in the fob to make sure it wasn't a signal strength issue. I lifted the seat and the tray under that to get to the alarm box and replaced the two lithium batteries in there. Guess what? Still nothing! Trouble is, I bought the bike second hand and for the first 6 months never even thought about trying the alarm. When I decided recently that I would start using it, I discovered it didn't appear to work...... So now I don't know what to do. Any pointers appreciated. Is there anything obvious I've overlooked?
