All bikes banned in Natural Park of the High Pyrenees

A love it when one of these twats starts it up on the ferry (early) - so we can all hear how loud it is.

The bell ends do it on the train as well. Often the same ones who have no idea how to use the check in, how to board the train or how to ride off. Besides the noise, these cnuts forget that exhaust gasses come streaming out to gas the poor sods behind.

I recall taking the Piper 3-1 off my Kettle in 1997 as it was too fecking loud and did bugger all for the performance - seems nowt has changed in the interim...

Hopefully it won’t affect the major climbs like the Aubisque, Tourmalet etc as I’ve planned a Pyrenees tour in June/July so better keep an eye on this thread.

They will all be fine….. for now.

The biggest moans will come from blokes on motorbikes, somehow unable to overtake a bod on a bicycle or a coach. That and the cow pats (and the cows) lying in the road.

Yes, small, very rural areas few on here would ever explore.
It's an area that Austin Vince runs his trail finder events in or at least he did, I think he's taken them further north now. The trouble with excluding people is that it concentrates them elsewhere.

it's a Spanish thing. Those you name are in France...

If this is accurate, the TET and ACT could be affected in that area, routes I've ridden a few times. There will be an alternative route of course but it seems like a slippery slope.

I've been trail riding in that region when Trail Bike Tours were in the area, great tracks but a group of up to 8 off road bikes can make a lot of noise. In retrospect smaller groups would have been better.

Add them to big groups of road bikes and I can understand some of the issue, big groups aren't good, too much very low quality in group racing. As in straight line max noise and crap vertical cornering.

I watched a gaggle (about 10 bikes) of probably middle aged bikermates, all on big, brand new (very shiny, at least) KTM Adventure bikes leave Stratford-upon-Avon in a posse, mid-afternoon on Saturday.

The full nine yards. Fuck off exhausts, fully branded - very clean - kit, plenty of bling, roughly 45 to 50 in the 30 MPH urban road, some standing on the pegs….. and bods wonder why people get pissed off, the councils bring in 20 MPH limits and the rest of Warwickshire becomes a 50 MPH limit.

Oh yes,…. The local twats in their slammed Honda or Golf GTi’s with their pop-off exhausts were a pain in the arse, too.

I live in a national Park in Portugal and we have a few groups a year of trail riders, from 3 up to sometimes 30, quads included...I live in total peace & quiet with very little through traffic that can be seen or heard, but I do enjoy to hear the people enjoying themselves on the trails, of which there are many, many...I usually have a game of "spot which bike that is" with myself.

It must be an awful affliction this old age thing, I just hope it never knocks on my door.

I doubt if you have time to consider real noise, with all all the conspiracy noises going off in your head. ;)

I recall some years ago riding on the Stokesley to Helmsley road, commonly known as ‘the Helmsley TT’ just past Laskill if I recall correctly. Coming out of a bend I saw a group of sports bike riders, all dismounted and trying to administer first aid to what I assumed was one of their riding group who was in a very unnatural looking position against a dry stone wall. There was a bike partially dismantled a bit further on with bits of it strewn about. Those in attendance appeared to be deliberately not trying to unfold the injured rider. I stopped, put my four ways on and started directing traffic. A tractor came along and as he passed me he stopped, opened his cab window and shouted “you bikers……..you deserve all you get”. I remember thinking at the time that he was a bit of a twat to say such a thing within earshot of someone who was looking decidedly unwell as a result of coming off his bike.

But then I started to wonder what had brought him to the point where that had become his opinion. Howling exhausts all day long as soon as the sun shone. Trying to pull out onto a clear road only to find bikes suddenly appearing at high speeds, endless near misses, complete disregard for the rules of the road, utterly mental overtakes etc etc etc and of course road closures when a fatal occurs (29 in the County that year I think). And I had to accept he may have had a point. People who live in these popular riding areas have to put up with it and it wears a bit thin I guess.

Aah yes, the Loud Pipes Save Lives morons, still using this hairy old cliche as an excuse to indulge their childish desire to make an obnoxiously loud anti-social noise to get people to look at them as they go through villages and towns. Despite the scientific evidence which has disproven this idiotic mantra, they still persist with this nonsense. They are so convinced of it they pay money for sew on badges to confirm their indoctrination. It is pitiable and laughable especially when they are convinced this belief will keep them alive, they would rather lash out mega-bucks on an aftermarket ear splitting exhaust instead of investing in improving their riding skills, awareness, planning, observations and general bike control. We run a training programme on behalf of the West Mercia police Safer Roads Partnership and attend shows such as the Bike For Life (I'll be at the one at RAF Cosford on April 23rd if you fancy coming to say hello), I've lost cont of the number of times I've chatted to bikers (generally all male as women riders are much more open minded) who give me a load of macho bullshit attitude When i talk to them about skills improvement. "I've been riding for years mate, I don't need no training", "What do I want training for?" "Nah not for me mate, I'm a good rider" and so on. I often tell them that if they are that good then they should go on track and race and prove it before walking away.

Come on, we were all 17 once, whilst I’m not a fan of loud pipes, I’m also not a fan of old farts (me now), demanding that kids behave as 40 year olds.

I was in a gas station a few months ago and some retard was blipping his throttle as he waited for his mates to fill up. Loud can and all.

A time and a place to open the throttle…….

That does not make them a good rider, it makes them a fast rider. I have no desire to ride faster, however safe. I have a greater desire to make my tyres, brakes and fuel last as long as possible and put as little strain on my machine as possible. I bet I can beat you at that! :P

Don’t be bringing logic and reasoned debate in here , there’s no place for it :D
From someone who’s riding their Ducati through the Pyrenees in a few weeks………hopefully

See you there, RT and KTM 1090, an odd couple :)

I have the same philosophy, I don't care about speed. We never encourage our students to go fast, we always tell them to ride within their comfort zone and focus on positioning, reading the road ahead, using the correct gear, hazard awareness and risk perception, steering technique and so on. They become smoother riders and a by product of that is that subconsciously they start to ride quicker but the control is there.
