All for the sake of a broken clip

I’ve long considered London or most major uk cities as no go zones for a nice bike. Even if they don’t nick it or parts of it whilst parked up, you are open to bike jacking etc. It’s a matter of when not if.

Yup, horrid place. And Wapping lives there...

Create a market by stealing them.
Lots of the older 1200GS have had their instrument panels stolen going back as far as 2007.

Some owners may decide to pay for a used item than have a hefty increase on their insurance far in access of the cost of a used item.

Looks like this chap is doing a cracking business, Romanian and now legit since 2019 according to Romanian Company House. Deals in Ducati, BMW, etc parts. Based over in Timis county in the magic triangle Hungary, Serbia. Doing good business with loads of satisfied customers from all over EU.
Made no profit, working capital £80, turnover £70, in bank £25, no sells, debt £120. Fucker...or maybe just your honest dealer:rolleyes:

Don’t know how legit he is as in parts source but he’s been around for many years. He came up on various Ducati forums selling engines that didn’t quite match the description ( as in well worn but sold as low mileage). One to avoid either way.

He’s based in the uk as well at least some of the time despite where he’s registered as several people met him to collect parts.

Don’t know how legit

I was been sarcastic, according to his returns he is losing money  Fact is as long as there are people ready to buy second hand parts from "legit" dealers and platforms let them get away, owners of bikes will suffer from theft and damage.

I may be wrong, but it looks like item 1

All, of the plugs are available as repair items for this purpose

It sound like the dealer is being a bit officious and jobsworth

Even if they had to purchase a new loom, there would be no way that they would strip the bike,

they would just swap the connector over.

Looking at the loom, the isn't a connector for a replacement loom to join to, it's a whole new loom

and who in there right mind is going to pay for a strip & rebuild of a bike to replace a harness due to a broken connector

something isn't right there.

Any have decent auto electrical bod could de & re pin the connector in about 20 minutes

Well said that man, we refit connector bodies of one description or another all the time at work. BMW just don't employ any technicians that have the ability to do anything other than press buttons on a laptop and do as it says

Appearing to lose money is a way of avoiding tax, you only need to show a decent profit on the run up to selling your company. You have to ask yourself who is the criminal here, the scrotes stealing the TFT or BMW for wanting to charge to replace the loom rather than just the clip connector. Provides a whole new insight into the term 'organised crime'!

Here's a couple of ideas.

1. For BMW to show a bit of gumption and good will, why don't they, as part of the next scheduled service, remove the TFT and have the VIN or some other identifier engraved on the underside (and possibly the upper clam shell moulding also), so physically associating the TFT to the bike or owner. It would cost very little- 30 mins labour, and BMW get to show they are trying to do something.

2. A hard lockdown coding the TFT to the bike so that they can not, even by the dealer, be re-used.

Nah, it might reduce their revenues.

Would it Bollocks the screen to etch the number plate onto it? I’d be quite happy to do that, but I wouldn’t want to be first...
