Alloy cleaner

Someone on the site was recommending "trade group" alloy cleaner
but it appears they do two types,
Novoc alloy 15 or
TH 020-5
Anyone know which is best for cleaning the engine and whats the
best technique ?

That was me.

I was only aware of one type. I'll have a look tonight at the one I have.

Best technique is to paint it on, leave it a few seconds and then work the area with a small stainless brush. Leave it for a few more seconds before washing off with cold water.

I was after the one recommended by Rob, but could not find a convenient local distributor.
I did however find an equivalent in 'Machine Mart' but cannot comment as have not yet used it

This is an R80 I bought from Steptoe

One session with the ally cleaner and a small stainless brush

I didn't blast any of the casings just used the cleaner a few times.

The key to using it is in using the wirebrush. If you just paint it on and leave it very little happens. There is an optimum time to leave it on before brushing.You soon get a feel for it though and a gallon lasts a hell of a long time.

I'm rebuilding an engine at the minute. I'll take a few pictures when I clean the cases.

only use it on bare aluminium not painted surfaces. It's a product used by professional valeters.

Alloy cleaner available in Dublin

I called Trade group and found their Irish Distributer, who were able to supply this cleaner. The only problem is they would only supply a minimum of 4 x 5 litre containers. Total cost including carriage to me was €46.66. If anyone wants 5 litres give me a call, €12 collected from Terenure, Dublin.

Mods please move this post if needed, but I did'nt see the point in putting it in the For Sale section as so few people would be interested
