looking at getting a pair of Alpinestar Tech 3 boots (the black all terain version), but also wondered about the tech 8.

are the Tech 8's really worth the £100 extra???

I have Tech 3's and they are brilliant. They remained water free on sunday even after sticking my foot down in the water several times. They are comfy and I find them easier to put on and take off.
Tech 8's are superb too, that'a why the Motox and enduro boys use em.
Tech 10's were too hard for me to put on, after 20 minutes I gave up.
Either way you'll be happy you chose Alpinestars.

It all depends what you want them for. Green laning, gentle Enduro moto-x & commuting Tech3 will be fine. But if it is for Serious Enduro & Moto-X then the Tech8 is a better boot.

Tech 8s have a very high level of protection, including a seperate gel bootie to absorb shock to ankle bones.

They are very tough but correspondingly not the most comfy (for normal use) boot there is. Also, they are not the slightest bit waterproof (especially the white ones which have extra venting).

None of the above, however has stopped me using Tech 8s as my every day boot for the last three years. Seal skins keep me dry and I put up with the rest as I value protection above all else.

Having just said that I value protection above all else I have just replaced my Tech 8s with Alpinestar Vectors - much lighter and comfier but still a high level of protection. Here. Might be worth looking at them (approx £180)?

Sorry to cut in on this thread ... but I have a few questions about alpinestar boots.

1. What is the Vector like and what is the difference between that and the tech boots?
2. Do you have to buy a size bigger if you want to wear those waterproof socks like seal skins?

Cheers.

So far I am loving them, they are lighter than a 'normal' mx boot and therefore more comfy to walk around in - there is slightly less protection than a 'high end' boot like a Tech 8 / Sidi Flexforce but, for me, the comfort compromise has been made and hopefully was the right descision.
They still IMHO offer more protection than the majority of road boots, especially in the often hit and vulnerable shin area.

Sizing is American so where I normally wear a size 10 I'm always a size 11 with Alpinestars. Seal skins are no thicker than normal socks, I also wear a thin sock inside them and find it makes no difference to fit.

Thanks for the information Andres! I am assuming you are talking about the Alpinestar Vector boot in your above description.

I think I will be going to my local Hein Gerike to get a pair.

Anyone know a place I can get it (Alpinestar Vector) for a discount? :nenau

Cheers! :thumb2

Try Ebay for the Tech 3's.

Ebay Germany..230107160685
This guy seems to take offers around the 150 Euro mark (about 100 quid)..

Heingericke is about 140quid for the same pair.

No, the above applies to all Alpinestars I have owned ie Tech 4s, Tech 8s and now the Vectors.

Hope you like them :thumb2

I have a pair of Vector's and love them. As far as i can tell they are designed more as a supermoto boot than an off-road boot, but as i spend most of my riding commuting i find them more than capable of handling it.
They are extremely comfortable and easy to get on/off thanks to only having three 'buckles'.
I got mine off Fleabay a while back for £90..........

New Tech 6 looks just like the Tech 3 :nenau

Vectors are very similar to Tech 3's only £50 more.

You shouldn't pay more than £130 for Tech 3's from a motox store.

Let me amplify a bit...

I ride all day long 5-6 days a week all year round. Currently i wear Daytona Transopen GTX but after 6 years they are getting a bit worn out. the Daytona are great in the winter but a little too hot in the summer and i am struggling to get a replacement pair.

When i have ridden off road i have borrowed my mates old Tech 8's and like them but i had been recomended the Tech 3's instead for my day to day wear. Not desperately worried about waterproof as i have sealskins to hand for wet days. Just really looking for a good all day round useable boot that will last.....

Alpinestar vectors for me picked them up on ebay £90 new.I wear sealskins aswell they offer good protection offroad i went over the bars on sunday and the bike landed on the bottom of the legs everything ok.:thumb2

What are the diffferences between these Alpinestar boots?

Tech 7, tech 8, tech 10 and vector?

What does a motorcross boot mean? or a supermoto boot? is it just "marketing" bollox so they are have a "complicated" pricing structure and you can't compare apples with appples?

Or are there real differences between how the boots work when you use it?

I am just looking for a cool looking boot to go with the GS :D

The basic difference is price and with higher price better protection. I have both Tech 8's & Vectors. The Vectors are my day to day boot and very good indeed, with great comfort and protection and ease of getting on & off. Found them a bit chunky at first for gearchanging but a swift session with a spanner to move the gear lever down and they are fine.

The Tech 8's I used for supermoto racing and offroad and they are the business and as mine are white i feel like a stormtrooper in them!!:thumb2

Neither boot is waterproof but I would use sealskins (do you get the blubber removed first?) as most do.
