Folks,

The forecast for Sunday around the Scottish Central Belt is "Wet, +8 degrees with +3 degrees overnight".

Sounds as though the icy roads will have gone by mid-morning.

I hate to mention it . . But its the monthly BMW Club lunch meeting at 'Katie's Tearooms", Birnham, by Dunkeld. Meet at 12:30.

I might be going (I'll check the weather in the morning).

Anyone else up for this.

I can live with 'wet' :thumb

I can't do a first run on Sunday as I did it today unlike all the wimps who went back to bed.

I had a good day and shock horror even posted a picture or two!

Enjoy your day, hope it rains on the lot of you;)

That was very impressive, I'm glad you made it home unscathed.

I was feeling rather guilty at not going out today but had no real desire to be the only one there (plus I hate the road from Blairgowrie to Bridge of Cally).

If I'd known you were going I might have made the effort (easy to say that now !).

Tomorrow isn't looking good - no sign of the thaw, in fact we have freezing fog here at the moment.

I'll see how it looks in the morning.

It's going to start as snow and then rain on you:-

arcboutant sings along wi' this song but gets the words wrong.

He sings: "Is it because I lied in 1917?" :thumb

Looking better this morning.

Much warmer (for January in Scotland), damp and no frost.

I am about to head for Dunkeld / Birnham.

Soup and bacon butties beckon. :thumb

Can I ask what is wrong with the road from Blair to the Bridge of Cally:confused:

and while on the subject of that road... indeed all the way to Braemar what is with the endless warning triangles with pictures of vintage bikes?

Can't decide if it means

-danger motorbikes
-dangerous motorbikes
-danger vintage motorbikes
-danger for vintage motorbikes

or since I rather like the road it might actually be subversive and actually mean.... magic road just for motorbikes.

In fact having been on it on 27th December I was amazed at how a road can be so different. From Blairgowrie to Glenshee it is tight, twist and with lots of blind summits.

from Glenshee it has fast sweepers and open sections.

My sat nav took me for a wee wander heading north eastish out of Balater and I went through mile after mile of silver birch forest... quite amazing really.:thumb

Well, I went to Katie's Tearoom.

Up to Perth, then along the A93 to the Meikleour Beech Hedge and left onto the A984 to Dunkeld.

All was fine until I was about five miles from Dunkeld when I started to encounter slush on the road, which got heavier all the way to Dunkeld.

At one point there was a car, stationery, facing me with a woman standing in the centre of the road talking to the driver. A bit further on an Astra (I think) had missed the corner and gone down the embankment taking a telegraph pole with it.

Got to the Tearooms OK and met up with one other rider - on a K1100LT - who was trying to ride into the car park. No chance; there was slush on top of ice and no grip. I had a job pushing him back onto the road.

I parked the GSA (with help) in between two cars.

There was quite a lot of snow about - but it was raining and thawing fast.

Two wet motorcyclists (I hate the term 'Biker') went in for food and heat . . but the snug was full of BMW Club car drivers

To be fair, the 'regulars' were on their way home from the "Bunkhouse Weekend" at Lochearnhead so I guess they needed their cars to carry all their camping stuff :augie

I returned home via the A9 - no probs at all.

So that's my first run of the year over.

See you at the next one . . (Now to watch "Men in black II" :thumb

I have ridden that road in all seasons and in all weathers on a variety of (BMW) bikes.

There is something I don't like about it; the surface can be rough, ragged-edged, mirror smooth and normal, the corners are often blind and I seem to find slippery bits under the trees regardless of the time of year (I have had a couple of front-end slides at very moderate speeds).

As I leave Blairgowrie and start to climb towards the lights at the Bailey Bridge I get a sense of foreboding, the road seems dark and 'brooding' to me.

Once I am past Bridge of Cally I feel very relieved.

I don't know what it is, but I just take that stretch very carefully and I'm glad to get out of it.

Doesn't stop me using it though :thumb.
