Title sums it up but after taking F8 off road I think throttle sucks. Slack I can't get rid of then power jerks in too violently for picking your way around off road.
Even on road I only seem to use 1/4 of a turn so was wondering if there is a slow action/lower gearing throttle available?

Slack you can't get rid of? Hmmm, mine has none at all so maybe there's some adjustment in there you didn't find? :nenau

They are snatchy at low rpm, so you either learn to ride the clutch, or take a chance on one of the many injection-correction modules available. Not tried any myself, but there are a couple of threads on here from people who swear their bike is transformed...

I found the same thing with my 800 - very snatchy throttle which made the transition from throttle on to throttle off very jerky. I initially put this down to my inexperience but try as I might I couldn't improve it.

I ended up buying an accelerator module from http://www.sol2.be/Performance/ENG/BMW/index.html which really has made the world of difference to the bike. It's now much smoother and feels like a nicer machine. £40 well spend in my opinion....

I'm no slacker

The slack isn't in the cable so to speak, more of a delay before wallop in comes the power.

Thanks Si, I am nof off to ask my friend mister visa if he can buy me one. Sounds just what I need. Was expecting an aftermarket throttle with big wheel cog on top. Had one on off road bike once but this sounds more straight forward.
Does this remove the lean running thing that gives the bike such good fuel economy?

From what I read on the subject, the added in bit fools the computer into thinking that the outside temperature is about 20 degrees cooler that in reality, which makes the lean burning engine run a touch richer. Apparently the computer only requires this temperature information under acceleration or deceleration, so with a steady throttle setting it won't make any difference.

I may increase consumption a touch, but it really is worth paying that small price....

I fitted one to my 650 twin and it made absolutely no difference for me, left it in there cus i cant be arsed to remove it and due to it not doing anything to my bike feel i cant flog it on to anyone else :nenau

My F650 GS twin (798:blast) is fine there is that finer control needed when riding slow and then picking up.

But have learned (now know) after 17,300 miles on the bike its ways. if no matter what the situation I just use finer, gentle wrist control gentle on the throttle keeping the pick up rather than loosing it and very slow is no problem just keeping in gear (no slipping the clutch) is positive traction with no suprises, (like some bends slow in fast out smooth as a smoth thing :thumb)
But yes sometimes in certain situation (maybe to many tasks going on) it happens but I put that down to my error not the bike :thumb2

feel the bike be the bike become one. :mmmm

but yes if I was slow on road or off at a certain pace then grabbed a fist full it would be as some describe, but I would ecxpect that and be waiting for it to happen :D

Maybe the F650 GS is more refined or its just a multi tasking thing :green gri

Easy enough on road but doing a fair few miles off road in Spain it was a real pain. I was constantly surging forward when standing or when hanging right back on steep descent and when you are thrown backwards you tend to turn the throttle even more, exaggerating the problem.
First gear too tall as well but lowering gearing on sprockets would affect mph and mpg

Put in a washable air cleaner (hi flow) and drill 4 3/4 inch holes in the airbox lid. The stock intake snorkles are restrictive and will make for a snatchy throttle.

top tip two

Is this a common mod for you guys? Sounds nice and simple as long as it doesn't result in popping. banging and a flat spot somewhere??? (paranoid?)

One more endorsement and I'll grab my drill...

Thanks for the tip :thumb

Yeah, the throttle response is shite. It amazes me that we have to put up with it in this day and age - can't they get it right? Carbs still rule!
