Is there an alternative to the original Autocom speakers that would be compatible with my Autocom SPA system?

My Shoei Neotec has "pockets" for the speakers and although reasonably large the elongated shape of the Autocom speakers means they just won't fit. It's impossible to get them in deep enough to be retained with velcro unless a spacer is added. I use Ultimate Ear in-ear speakers as well but the retained Autocom speakers enhances the quality of the sound and is useful if I choose just to use ordinary ear plugs.

Stu.

Its possible to remove the small speaker from the autocom outer plastic housing. Fit it into the recess with double sided tape.

I also use a heated spoon to melt the polystyrene a little to increase the recess. ;)

I used a file and trimmed the speaker housing down so that it fitted the recess. Other than that, Intaride do compatible headset systems. I don't know size or quality though.

Thanks guys :thumb2, you've given me some confidence to just attack it and see what happens ...

The speaker pocket in the Neotec is actually part of the internal plastic section and not going to easily re-shape, so I've had to modify the speaker using an extremely high tech approach ... the kitchen scissors! They now fit much better and with the helmets internals refitted it's hard to tell there's anything there. Job done :D

I just take the Autocom speakers out of the oval housing and then use double sided velcro to stick them in, they fit fine in my Neotec.

If you have in-ear speakers then Autocom sell a headset (minus the speakers) which you plug your in-ear speakers into and includes the mic to put in your help. Works great

I've given up with in helmet speakers and use my Ultimateears Soundears (Plugs with speakers in them) wired into a Cardo G9X headset. I never have to adjust the volume up from 20% regardless of the speed and the sound quality is awesome.

I've fitted these in place of the Autocom speakers , a tad expensive but very good.

Thanks for this recommendation both here and in this thread.

One of my Autocom speakers recently failed, after reading your posts I decided to go for the Tork Xpro, very impressive, what a difference in sound quality and volume. I wish I'd done this upgrade earlier.

I have fitted them to a Shoei Neotec helmet. They fit better if the outer covers on the Tork Xpro are removed (with the covers the total diameter is 60mm, without the cover the speaker alone is 45mm), they will then fit in the Shoei speaker recesses, just. The original Shoei speaker covers can be refitted if the sponge (that goes in the speaker recess when no speakers fitted) is removed from the cover, the resulting glue residue can be removed with isopropanol switch cleaner (it’s a good idea to wash the covers with a mild detergent after removing the glue).

The only issue I had was when trying to solder the new speakers, I forgot about the speaker magnet which decided to attach itself to my soldering iron during the soldering process, melting a little bit of the plastic cover on the back of the magnet! This is not a problem as it can’t be seen and it isn’t going to affect the performance of the speaker.
