Hi, just preparing for a long trip and thought I might as well take my recently changed Alternator belt with me. Only I forgot to remember what size sprocket was required to turn the pulley over and disengage/engage the new belt. Looking for the sprocket size please(haynes does not state it, and loathe to remove crud catcher and cover to find out).
2) what are you guys carrying as a breaker bar for use on loosening front wheel/ other bolts requiring leverage?

I used a 34mm socket which I thought was a bit loose but the 33mm was too tight and wouldn't fit.

I use a standard socket set ratchet on the front wheel spindle, but a sliding extending car wheel wrench would give more leverage. The risk is doing it up too tight. .

I have changed my alternator belt twice and have had no luck using a socket to turn the motor to get the belt back on as the socket gets in the way of the belt.

What is easier (although you would not believe it) is to put the bike in 6th gear on the center stand and turn the back wheel while using your hands to get the belt on. The same method can be used to remove the belt.

Best of all no additional tools required :)

mmm, maybe that's why it failed to turn....stuck in 6th gear..
Besides, need heck of long arms to reach, turn rear wheel and slip a belt on! :) :bounce1

i have never heard of a 1200 drive belt failing, take it with you but you dont really need to take any special tools.if you are unlucky enough for it to fail just remove a spark plug from each cylinder and wait for someone to turn up and turn the rear wheel.:D
if you torque your wheels up with the bikes tool kit you wont need a breaker bar:thumb

It is normally time to "find a friend" to turn the back wheel.

The first time I fitted it I got the wife to rotate the wheel, 2nd time I pushed it with my foot.

Warning - neither was easy as there is a fair amount of force required
