the gs is the best bike iv owned,,
but i like a second bike, usually lighter , more offroad,
but sometimes i miss a 4 cyl, (never for long though)

Done all the big jap sports bikes, various ducatis including a JHP tuned 996, to be honest aged 50 thought, it will not do getting locked up for some of the speeds I used to play at.
I'll try a GS and get more into the touring type riding.

Well that is does easily, but suprisingly it can show a clean pair of heels to most sports bikes particular when then are loads of twisties.

The great thing is, it does so, with such comfort and reasonable fuel consumption thrown in.
I have also discovered how handy a top box is, for carrying a "picnic", makes a few of the jap boys look twice, not only did the GS keep up, take us, or whatever, but he has a bloody larder on the back.

cbr600 to 1150gs,my mates though i was gettin old before my time,ive never looked back,got a vfr for fun days with them.

My last couple of bikes have been Zx6's with the most recent being the 636B1H. You dont get a more radical riding position than that with 170 ish top end, razor handling and brakes that can make your eyes pop out.

The problem with it was i was riding it stupidly fast all the time and have switched to an 1150 GS which has been a revelation to me. I now enjoy riding at 100 mph through twisties instead of 150 mph. The missus now is properly chilled on the back with a top box to lean on making 400 mile days easy peasy 2 up with all our luggage instead of sore knees and soft luggage

You will be surprised how well a GS can handle and stay with jap sports bikes aslong as they dont have a long straight to blast away from you on.......... you still have the bends to catch back up

KTM990 SMT got to be worth a try if you're coming from sportsbikes.....Bike magazine absolutely love their long termer and they've ridden it just about everywhere including some mad 72hr almost non stop ride where they swapped riders every 6 or 8 hrs.

Me... MBX50 sports .NSR125, VF400, CBR600, XTZ750 first brief affair with ADV biking then back to sprts bikes GPX750, VFR750, , XV750 shit, VALKYRIE daft , BMW K1 quirky sports tourer, BMW R1100GS & BMW R1150GS the best,..........non were owned more than 2yrs except the GS which I kept for nearly 7yrs and would still have it now if not for the newborn.

ridden a sports bike can't answer your question...but I love my 1150GS to much to even want to try.....

its a feckin ace bike but jeeze 4.5k service intervals are just not cricket these days with the sort of miles some of us do it cost an arm and a leg to keep them within warranty

christ even ducati can achieve 7.5k service intervals now

Would love to get one .........service intervals wont bother me because I'll be lucky to do much more than 2.5k a yr now there's a little un . A dealer service every 2 yrs and an owner oil change every 12mths is fine by me

twas one of the reasons i let my 990 go i was riding it so much i couldnt afford to keep servicing it

I've done sports bikes then Supermoto my last being a 990 Supermoto mad bike Ive just bought the GS but I really just want to rack up miles go places and SEE THEM without eyes popping out my head when I get home

The closest I've been to a sportsbike was a 1991 VFR750, a neighbour then had an R1100GS which he let me have a quick shot on. Only 5 minutes, not enough really , but I think that short event sowed a persistant seed.

Took me a few years before I finally got my first GS, a 1200, now replaced after a year of ownership with an F800GS.

Hardly anything went wrong with the VFR, and I still think it was a great bike, but don't have any desire to have another.

NO REGRETS

I sold my Fireblade which I had for 8 years for a 1100 GS 5 years ago. I kept that for a year then traded it in for a 1150 GSA and I have just sold the 1150 and bought a 1200 GSA. I have never looked back ! If you buy one you are hooked
