Am I the only one who loves the transmission?

Early 2014 GSA LC and the gear change is smooth as a prom queen's thigh.

No gear assist pro - neither want it or need it. I just ride the bike with a little mechanical sympathy, which seems to work just fine. :augie

To be honest I never thought the gearbox was a deal breaker, but my 2016 gs is just so much better than previous bmws. Truly could give my jap bikes a run for their money.

Have to agree... my 2014 GSA has such a smooth change up the gears even without the clutch but with all that low end torque, you can leave it in 5th and just power out of virtually any corner.

2014 gsa box not a patch on the one on my previous 2011 gsa tc whether using the assist shift pro or not

I with you stormchaser, in fact my last four LC's have all had nice boxes and great clutches.
I always give the bike I'm thinking of buying a decent road test before I buy, even if it's only a model change. I have a nice 100 mile test route that incorporates a bit of everything including Seaways biker cafe. I do the first test day one-up and then another day two-up. After covering a couple of hundred miles on the bike, I'm pretty sure of what to expect for my hard earned cash and if my new bike does not feel similar to my road test bike, I know it's a fault on the bike......however this has not happened yet!

Never quite understand why folk buy expensive bikes that they have never tested properly! :augie

They are nice and smooth when new. When the clutch issues raise their ugly head is when you get problems. Be sure never to over-fill on oil as that where the problem can start.. 3.8L is more than enough. About half way on the sight glass when the bike is level.

In the 4 services I have now had, it's *always* been overfilled by the dealer.

I've had a couple of GSXRs in the past so I know how good a gearbox can be

But.........my last 3 bikes were Hondas and were as clunky as fook so I'm not shocked by the GS gearbox

It's not great by any means but the quick shifter helps to hide its faults

Can't fault my 2014 gsa gearbox/change no assist and cannot see need for one. JJH

Me too. In total 8 services and always overfilled, even when I have asked specifically for it not to be and for them to use the sight glass rather than just filling up with the BMW specified quantity. I have given up asking now and have a system for draining some off with undoing the filter. When it is sown to ½ to ⅔ in the sight glass it does make quite a difference to the drag compared to when full or overfilled.

having said all that I now have a 2017 GSA and the gear change is great anyway.
