Amazing Scotland in 6 Days

A group of us did almost the same route at the end of May this year, but in the reverse direction along the top and down the West coast. Your post just reminded me how great the journey was. We all started our journey in Scotland though so you definately racked up more miles. Each time we stopped I'd be like a kid with a new toy saying 'This is great! This is F***in' great!' Fab pictures and a great write up.

Thanks

It turns out the Zumo cradle is not working correctly, it has good supply but the voltage isn`t getting into the unit, spoke to Garmin support who gave me an address to post it back to and they would test and replace it straight away ! Excellent service. :thumb

Thankyou all for you comments, seems i should have been a travel writer !!!

I will be going back in September but this time in my Shogun with some mates and we will be visiting Skye and that area, wont be quite the same in the car but none of my mates have bikes.:( :(

Nice pics and write up, seems like you had a good trip, apart from being on your lonesome. I'm taking some well deserved time off this summer and would like to take myself across the pond and up to the highlands, fingers crossed.

great report and pictures.glad you enjoyed yourself and you can see why i call it gods country

Great report and pics, thanks. I did a similar route in my 1971 Porsche 911 in May, fabulous roads and hospitality. It looks like you had similar weather. We were there for the spring bank holiday week end when England had all the rain and cold weather.

super piccies and write up.:thumb

Another trip to add to my 'must do one day' file - thanks for sharing :)

Really cracking photogtraphs and write up. Great stuff :clap

Not often I agree with Herr Ronno, but....................... a trip to remember - thanks for sharing with the rest of us :thumb2

Great pics of Loch Awe.

Al :D

(lived in Caithness for 18 years........ Don't feel you have to visit John O Groats - it's a real sh*thole)

Great report.

Great report & pics.

"Bazza", I'm ready when you are for another trip to bonny Scotland:clap

Hi Alan,

Good report and excellent pictures ..... yes Scotland is truely great ( apart from Midges + Rain) been a number times myself but always find somthing different. I was in the Outer Hebrides last year for 6 days...... absolutly fantastic and manage to get in Lewis and Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, and Barra. B&B's great ; beaches amazing and roads to die for ( Not really).

Im not to far away from you drop me a line and we will have a ride / Chat / Pint.

Regards Bigboy ( Martin)

Great report and piccies Alan.

Ashamed to say been all over the world and never to Scotland but this type of rite up and excellent shots showing what I could expect make me think about a bike trip there.

Now about those midges and the rain ....

This is whats its all about

What a fantastic, inspirational write-up & accompanying pics. Been up to Scotland briefly on a couple of occasions, but this report just wants to make you do it again properly, roll on 2008.
Well done AlanAce1967. Look forward to reading some more of your exploits.
Living local to you perhaps we`ll meet up for a ride-out in the future.

Gotta be done Darren. Great roads, fantastic scenery, food to die for. Even the weather couldn't spoil it for me. Cant wait to go back. :thumb2

Went in may, so didn't have a problem with midges.

Stunning photos.

Once you get beyond the Glasgow /Edinburgh belt, I don't think that there are many bad roads.

Don't tell anyone though.

Recently back from 5 days up there, with five mates touring on our bikes.

1,400 fantastic miles:thumb2

6 days in Scotland

Just read your write up and have some inspiration to start planning our 7 day trip in May, fantastic photos - hope we get some dry weather! Any B&Bs you would highly recommend or not?!

Cheers

Hi, yes heres a few b&bs

This one is 2 mins walk from Fort William town centre, excellent, clean and good parking and breakfast.

Plenty of others in Scotland. Its best not to plan too much and just take each day as it comes finding B&B towards the end of the day.

Im off again in June, cant wait.

Great write up and beautiful pics. One of these days I'll make it to Scotland...I just hate the dead time on the freeway to get there (from Switzerland). Maybe I'll look at fly and rent options.

Question:
For a trip of relatively short duration like this is it worthwhile bringing camping gear ? eg. tent + sleeping bag take up lots of room on the bike.
I'm thinking bed & breakfast or cheap motels make more sense if <1 week trip.

Comment:
Gloves - I always keep a pair of XXL kitchen rubber gloves in my tank bag. When it rains you slip them over your regular gloves. Not perfect, but practical! I need to find a similar solution for the feet...plastic shopping bags aren't ideal (diff to tie off).

GPS - Garmin
I have an old GPS V (way out of date - small memory cache of 19 MB!).
The place I bought it from in Switzerland specifically 'set it up' for motorbikes eg. vibration / rain. Apparently they open it and pour in a rubber type compound. You might want to see if something similar is available in the UK.

Thanks for your report!

...also drove over the mountain (Garrow Road) into Kenmore many moons ago, thanks for the reminder.....:thumb

clearly recall thinking this wasn't the ideal road for my RGV250 at the time...now showing my age:augie:augie
