I wouldn't take Bowser's reply as gospel. ISTR that he and I have done this before. As I remember it, the regulations say that helmets worn in the UK need to be to ECE 2205 or a similar standard. Somewhere in the mists of time I read a paper which said that it was unlikely that any other standard would be considered to be equivalent.
It's unlikely that you'll encounter any problems but I don't think what my wife and I did, what some of out friends still do and what you're proposing to do is strictly legal.

It doesn't take much imagination to clarify it but......you can get done for it and insurance won't pay out. That's what we teach since we've known of cases where that's happened.
