American DOT helmet

My wife and I both wore DOT and Snell rated Arai Signets that we bought in California for a good few years without any problem.

I got ACU Gold stickers put on them so that we could use them on the track.

Of course we didn't crash or have any kind of altercation with the law in that time....:nenau

Has anyone imported a helmet from the USA for use in the UK ?
Any hassle from the police or insurance companies etc ? :blagblah

None at you can wear them no problem it's ONLY SELLING THEM as a dealer that's against the law

Cheers for the replies guys, I fancy a Multitec in brilliant yellow to match the GSA :flag

I wouldn't take Bowser's reply as gospel. ISTR that he and I have done this before. As I remember it, the regulations say that helmets worn in the UK need to be to ECE 2205 or a similar standard. Somewhere in the mists of time I read a paper which said that it was unlikely that any other standard would be considered to be equivalent.

It's unlikely that you'll encounter any problems but I don't think what my wife and I did, what some of out friends still do and what you're proposing to do is strictly legal.

All motorcycle helmets sold in the UK must conform to ECE 22-05 or the older British Standard 6658, otherwise known as Type A (blue label) or Type B (green label.) :thumb

Which doesn't answer the original question...

I think the only time it would be an issue would be within a Coroner's report or an excuse for the insurance company to halve their payout.

Provided you don't fall off you should be OK.

A bit closer to the mark than you though, ay?

It doesn't take much imagination to clarify it but......you can get done for it and insurance won't pay out. That's what we teach since we've known of cases where that's happened.
