Not wishing to concern 1200 owners......but I would hate to think that you would all be very concerned every time you braked hard, wondering if the ball joint could fail. yeah, put it out of your mind...if you can

Do you ever fly? Not that what I could tell you would worry you
much Anyway as we've gone
there's accidents and accidents. Stopping in 1mm from 15 kph will cause a lot more damage / pain than if it was over 100mm. It would to me anyway

I almost pulled out of buying a 1200GS last year because of this type of thread. I have owned maybe 20 or so GS's and had very little problem apart from a clutch on a new 06 1200 GS, which I promptly sold. I have just got around to overcoming all the negative threads and bought a new 07 1200GS, which I love. Threads like this, however light hearted they may appear, DO NOTHING for GSing and biking in general. Rant-off!
at 40 mph and it pivoted around the ball joint and bent the upper stanchion and then snapped the top yoke and then bent the steel frame bolted to the engine and the ball joint still didnt break.
