After 3000 miles the rear Anakee 3 is getting squared off! Now I'm not an expert so I hope I can get to Garmisch and back before changing at about 5000?

Does squaring off have to get quite severe before one really notices a sort off dropping over on cornering...... I think you know the question I am trying to ask?

By the way I phoned GS Tyres (Gary) in Wokingham about choices for replacement and found that as well as Anakees, Tourances and Trail Attacks you can get Pilot Road 4's and Roadsmarts 2's now in the 120.70.19 and 170.60.17. Ive loved Roadsmarts before.

Also Gary explained that possibly the Anakee 3 might be stiffer in the side wall, and not giving so much so contributing to the squaring - I also saw a demo/ courtesy Bike at a dealers yesterday with 4000 miles on it and that had a seriously squared off rear! Is this wear rate normal?

Gary very helpful and my view is that people like GS Tyres or FWR probably the better place to go as they handles more tyre changes each week than maybe a main dealer and I imagine have better kit (nylon protected) to take the best care of your rims.

Cheers

Funnily enough mine won't wear out - I put some on (a hexhead) at 92,000 k as they were the only tires immediately available (I wanted Dunlops). I thought that I'd change them at the earliest moment and I'm currently on 114,000 k and they still have loads of life left so can't justify changing yet .....................

When they are squared off you'll feel a bump as the tyre goes over the ridge, not unsettling but enough to notice it when cornering.

2700 miles and mine are squared off after a trip to Spain and Portugal, which was 1500 miles of twisties. Thought it was just me being heavy handed on the throttle, but sort of glad to know it's not just me.

The Anakee III's on my 1150 are squared off after 5K miles. Even the front is squaring off and I've never had that before on any tyre on any bike...

Still plenty tread left and bike actually still handles fine at speed. You can feel the "drop in" on lower speed turns though.

Normally get 10K from Tourances, perhaps a little less from BattleWings or TrailAttacks.

Mine have done 3600 and are well squared off after a mixture of motorway and twisties both with the better half on and the Brit Butt.
Doing a 600 mile camping this weekend then the RBLR 1000 mile ride next weekend and recon they will be completely knackered by them.
But changing them for Tourance Next for the trip over to the Garmisch party weekend.

My Anakee 3s are squared off at 4800 miles, but more importantly they've just tried to spit me off for the 3rd time since I got the bike, so they'll be in a scrap heap very soon. Today I took a small 90 degree bend at about 15mph and rode across some overbanding. The tyres slipped out so much I had to instinctively dab a foot "off-road style" to keep it up. That's the 3rd incident with the Anakees, and I've never had any similar slides in 25 years on various tyres and bikes. Without exaggeration, I am happier cornering my XT660 on TKC80s than I am with the GS on Anakee 3s.

Really dislike Anakee 111''. Prior bike had Next's and although they squared off pretty quick their handling on tarmac is infinitely better than Michelin Anakees. Touring Greek islands right now and will decide on roadsmarts or nexts when I get home

Same here, Anakee 3 rear squared off quickly and was to the bars at 4,800. I went with Conti TA 2's which I like a *lot* more. Some here are having difficulty finding the size tires these bikes use. I like them enough that since the TA 2's were still available (and on sale) I ordered another set.

Hi Guys,

I do Agree that they wear out quickly, Mine are on 3200... and I think they won't go any further than 5k.

however, I have to say that they are fantastic road tyres, it doesn't matter if it´s raining, cold, or warm... they give tons of grip since you start the engine...off road capabilities... only if it's dry, they are useless on mud.

It could be handy if we tried to create a table with all the tyre options, and our opinions about longevity, grip, off road grip etc...

Go for the Pilot Trail 4. Just done 3000 miles trip and they look like new and feel great. They roll well and have loads of grip in all weathers........................but they're dear and probably not the best profile for anything other than road work
