After 3000 miles the rear Anakee 3 is getting squared off! Now I'm not an expert so I hope I can get to Garmisch and back before changing at about 5000?

Does squaring off have to get quite severe before one really notices a sort off dropping over on cornering...... I think you know the question I am trying to ask?

By the way I phoned GS Tyres (Gary) in Wokingham about choices for replacement and found that as well as Anakees, Tourances and Trail Attacks you can get Pilot Road 4's and Roadsmarts 2's now in the 120.70.19 and 170.60.17. Ive loved Roadsmarts before.

Also Gary explained that possibly the Anakee 3 might be stiffer in the side wall, and not giving so much so contributing to the squaring - I also saw a demo/ courtesy Bike at a dealers yesterday with 4000 miles on it and that had a seriously squared off rear! Is this wear rate normal?

Gary very helpful and my view is that people like GS Tyres or FWR probably the better place to go as they handles more tyre changes each week than maybe a main dealer and I imagine have better kit (nylon protected) to take the best care of your rims.

Cheers

if the bike spends most of her time bolt upright, it will square off regardless of tyre brand

I'm running Anakees on mine as well ( standard fitment from new), and mine are looking a bit square after nearly 3k as well. I do a mixture of twisties and M/way on my daily commute.

I want to change to specific road tyres when i change, but not sure what to get. I used to run Conti Trail Attacks on my last GS and was happy with those. Anyone recommend the Conti Road Attack? Pilot 4s have been suggested but look expensive. Any other comments on the Roadsmart 2s? Any other recommended?

My Anakee 3 rear squared off early on and was down to the wear bars at 4,800 miles while the front looked good for a couple thousand more. I was a little disappointed in that because prior to this Anakee 2's were my favorite tire, they didn't square off and I always got 6-8,000 miles with them. I replaced the A3's with Conti TA 2's and am very pleased with the handling and now with over 3,000 miles they aren't squared at all. I will go with Trail Attack 2's again.

Get some Anakee 2s and enjoy 10k if you are fairly gentle with them. Micheldever Tyres have stock and aren't a million miles from you.

Do they even make Anakee 2s in 170-17 and 120-19 sizes for Watercooled GS's?

that's a good point... I was thinking 110/150's

michelin site suggests only the above available... oops.

PR4's are the way to go for road only GS's...you'll never look back :)

Mine go on next week for a Picos jaunt in Spain end of the month, never tried road tires on the GS before so looking forward to it. :beerjug:

and yes i will inflate them correctly so my sensors don't go off

My latest toilet GSA has come fitted with Trail Attack 2's - nothing not to like so far but then I have only done 240 miles since picking up the bike a week ago ;)

Less than 3.5k on a new Anakee 3 rear, and it's squared off, and down to the wear bars.:blast Trouble is, the front has loads of life left. I fancy PR4's, but don't want to change the front if I don't have to, but I'm loathed to put another Anakee on the back, as they wear so quickly. Either way, Michelin win.:comfort:blast

Yes 4200 miles with a squared rear Anakee 3
Disappointing - I like the idea of a multi use tyre on the GS - MCN are doing a full tyre round up this week - out tomorrow

I know a couple of Vstrom riders who put their bikes on the centre stand, run the engine in gear and rasp a new profile onto the tyres.
I don't do that, the BM is too nose heavy so I just get used to the handling with a flat spot. At 6500m It falls into bends every now and then, 20 years ago the new sports tyres Avon red arrows had a triangular profile which gave the same feel, just needs a bit of input to change direction.
I do run down to the limit on my tyres, irresponsible some may say but with a totally knackered tyre the rain grooves are still better than a modern sports tyre.
