According to the very helpful chap at Rydales, the Adventure now comes with an "Enduro" first gear as standard, but if you wish you can have a higher geared first gear as an option- but I am not sure of the cost. The bike sounds good by the way!

This is true for 2004 Adventures. Fortunately I asked which box was fitted in time to learn that my dealer continues to order the higher first gear for stock machines. He worked hard to change it for a short first gear and I'm really glad he did. Two up on hills this baby pulls away in first, but I wouldn't like it to be a higher gear. Still find I'm playing the clutch in traffic.

Anyone know how to confirm whether the short box is fitted or not ?? Dealer says that short box has JAK cast into the box.

Just got back from my first ride - Portugal and Spain, 14 days old and 2500 miles on the clock. Great start.

"Enduro 1st gear"

I think this option has been around for at least couple of years. It is a no cost option but needs to be spec'd on ordering.

According to BM it's an "Enduro" gear for low speed control. It is better than the standard 1st but nowhere near as good as the old air-cooled twins with the heavy flywheel that allowed you to ride almost anywhere on tick-over without ever touching the clutch.

I was lucky when I ordered mine. My local "dealer" had one with and one without the low gear but the one with was the wrong colour - primer - so they swapped the coloured bits over and I now have the correct colour and the low 1st gear!:D :D :D
