Android App - Best Biking Roads

Hi Mark,

You're the first person to report a problem like this, so could I ask you to first try the following please:

Delete the App from your device
Restart your phone
Re-Download the App (from a wireless access point)
Re-install it and try again.

David

Hi David

Just did that for you and it is just the same. The near me works perfect, it shows all the routes and will show on the map. The near location just shows a grid and if I click select I get routes for Moroco.

Just for your info its an HTC Desire and is on 2.2. Its sim free so doesn't have any of the operators junk on it.

Should say for any one else reading this, everything else on the app works perfectly and it looks like I alone seem to be having problems. So I would still recommend you get this app if its your kind of thing, or the iPhone version of course.

I haver had another play and thought it might have been fixed but it isnt. I did get it to show a map but it is a cached map. I did a near me and picked a local route and showed it on the map. I then tried a near location and the map showed so I thought great it is fixed after all then had a thought. I did a region search and picked somewhere random which happened to be north Wales. Showed a route on the map and came out. I went back into near location and it showed North Wales again. So it is definitely only showing a cached map and actually has no idea where I am. I cant scroll past the cache either, I just get the grid again. Interestingly I can build up the cached map by going in via regional search several times and selecting various areas. They all remain in place as a cache.

You have my email address so feel free to carry on via email if you like. I guess this is a bike forum not a software one lol.

navigation too????

Does this app guide you gently onto these great biking roads and navigate you along them.. Not got my android anywhere i can see it but a voice instruction to turn left in 400 meters past the water tower, etc etc etc would be most useful!!! If it had that id buy it immediately!!!!!

Marki_GSA,

This is quite a strange problem, do you have any other apps loaded which use googlemaps? If so, could you try to play around with them a bit and see if there are any similar symptoms for me please?

mark2jag, at this time the primary apps function is not really navigation, the usage is more designed to be a fun app to find great roads to ride on. The app shows the nearest routes to your current location and shows that on a map in relation to where you are, but does not (at this time) use navigation to get you there.

Hope this answers your question

David

Hi David,

Sorry to take time to get back but I can report the same problem as Marki_GSA. I get no map, just a grid, even when the GPS is activated.

I'll try deleting and re-installing the app as you suggested but as that hasn't worked for Mark I'm not confident.

Phone is an HTC Magic; firmware 1.6; kernel 2.6.29; build DRC92

I have no problems with the google maps.

Cheers,

Niall

Hi David

The only other app I have that uses Google maps is Radardroid and it works as it should. Obviously I have Google maps/navigate as well which work as they should. If you have any other free/trial app in mind then let me know and I will load it on and test.

Mark + Larne,

Let me have a think about this and get back to you.

A quick question on another topic. Have you been having problems viewing apps in the Android market today? There seems to be some UK specific problem there too (but as I am not in the UK at present, I am unable to test it)

David

Mark and Larne,

Let me offer you a refund for the time being as these problems don't really seem acceptable to me. Please pm me your email addresses. I must admit that I am slightly regretting doing the tech support for this on a public forum as I'm sure it's deterred others from the app but never mind

Mark is you could also pm me the firmware versions you have and I'll check them against that of my test units and those of other users who have everything working fine. For now, if we could keep this out of the forum that's probably best, at least until resolved. FYI you two and one other are the only one's having this problem and many other's even have the same devices.

Not that this is any help to you but just to reassure anyone thinking about trying the app. Obviously it is also possible to get a refund from the android Market no questions asked for the first 24 hours after the purchase,

Also for reference, the app has a 96% install base which means that only 4% of customers have used the refund feature

I hope this goes some way to redeeming my credibility :)

David

Hi David,

No refund required here, and I hope my comments haven't discouraged anyone. Despite the fact that I have a problem with that one feature I can still browse to routes for my area and it is a great utility.

I will send you a PM with my email so I can assist you with any testing work that you might need in order to resolve this minor issue with what is otherwise a great app.

Cheers,

Niall

same goes for me, no refund required, its still very useful.

droid version is 2.2
baseband 32.44.00.32u_5.09.05.30_2
kernal 2.6.32.15-g6a358a9
build 2.10.405.2
software number 2.10.405.2
browser 3.1

If your anything like me you will want to find out what is different just for the hell of it :-)

Keep in touch and if you want any testing done just shout.

Larne and marki_gsa thanks for your comments.

Larne, could you provide the same info as marki_gsa (preferably via pm or email) and marki_gsa could you pm me your email address so that I can keep in touch with you about this.

Many Thanks

David

rce,

The joys of the android marketplace . . . .

It seems that some users are unable to find the app on the Marketplace while others can. People from the UK have purchased the app today successfully and yet it seems that several users are unable to find it in the market.

If you click on the direct link from this page from your device dies that return it?

I eventually got my glasses and managed to navigate around the page (you really could do with sorting the pages, Chrome doesn't like them either).

The link gives the following error:-

no matches in Android Market for the search pname: com.novasa.bestbikingroads

Probably not it is a touchpad thing, it does know roughly your location (within 1km) and is touchscreen.

It seems a shame if it needs all that just to display routes, as these touchpad devices are ideal for taking on biking tours. Bigger than a phone, better processor usually, mine has HDMI out so can play movies on a big screen tv, lighter and cheaper than a netbook.

rce,

I've recently learned that the Android market only displays the apps to you which are compatible with your device, in this case, if your device does not have a GPS that is deemed to be an incompatibility, so you won't be able to view the app or use it, for now I'm afraid you're 'stuck' with the regular site if you want to use route info.

About the website pages, some major cosmetic improvements is a work in progress, watch this space

David
