I've had my 63 reg 1200GS LC since September. Bought it second-hand, as an ex press bike. Apparently it was handed out to journos for long term tests.
It had 4500 miles on the clock.
Since then, I've had the following done under warranty:
1) Silencer replaced (motorised valve died, BMW thought it easiest to replace the whole unit)
2) Left-hand switchgear unit replaced (indicators died)
3) Clutch replaced (was not disengaging fully)
4) Engine cover replaced - paint was peeling off (I didn't ask for it, BMW just chose to do it).
5) Stand sensor replaced (it didn't tell the ECU that the stand was up, so it was impossible to get the bike into gear and moving - the brain cut the engine as soon as I went into first).
Now, at 10K miles, my recently-replaced clutch is playing up again. Exactly the same fault: even with the lever pulled in completely, it does not fully disengage.
The warranty has now run out. Maybe I'll be able to convince BMW to fix the clutch out of goodwill. Maybe not.
But, seriously, on a 10K mile super expensive bike isn't that a bit too much?
My previous GS, an airhead, did 68K miles. The only issue with it was the ABS - it died, as it did on many of those early bikes. Perhaps I should have stuck with it....
Rant over.
