I've had my 63 reg 1200GS LC since September. Bought it second-hand, as an ex press bike. Apparently it was handed out to journos for long term tests.
It had 4500 miles on the clock.
Since then, I've had the following done under warranty:
1) Silencer replaced (motorised valve died, BMW thought it easiest to replace the whole unit)
2) Left-hand switchgear unit replaced (indicators died)
3) Clutch replaced (was not disengaging fully)
4) Engine cover replaced - paint was peeling off (I didn't ask for it, BMW just chose to do it).
5) Stand sensor replaced (it didn't tell the ECU that the stand was up, so it was impossible to get the bike into gear and moving - the brain cut the engine as soon as I went into first).
Now, at 10K miles, my recently-replaced clutch is playing up again. Exactly the same fault: even with the lever pulled in completely, it does not fully disengage.
The warranty has now run out. Maybe I'll be able to convince BMW to fix the clutch out of goodwill. Maybe not.
But, seriously, on a 10K mile super expensive bike isn't that a bit too much?
My previous GS, an airhead, did 68K miles. The only issue with it was the ABS - it died, as it did on many of those early bikes. Perhaps I should have stuck with it....
Rant over.

Journos aren't renowned foe cosseting the bikes they are loaned.........

You haven't had it a year yet.

63 reg. Bought second hand.

Manufacturer's warranty has run out. There is a bit of dealership warranty left, but I'm not sure it'll cover the replacement of the clutch. As I said, it may work, or it may not. I have been advised that dealership warranties can be.... erm.... less than brilliant.

If it's from a main dealer, you should be fine.:thumb

The new clutch which was fitted will be covered if that's failed.

Just take the nice softly spoken approach at the dealership who did the first repair, don't go in ranting and raving screaming and shouting . I'm sure they will sort it

Pretty sure I saw a green one in performance bikes being wheelies every where and doing a load of burn outs to get the corr ct picture for the mag.....the moral of that is ...don't buy press bikes ,they don't show any respect to them at all

If it was from a BMW dealer it will be covered (if not the parts have a manufacturers warranty) , I would take out the BMW warranty for the rest of the time you own it or shift it on , it may not be the clutch as there seems to be recent reported issues with clutch slave cylinders

Agree, Neil, DC, Nutty. But surely that's not the point!

Get rid of the thing. It's pissboiling that it's making you very very angry.

Better still, set fire to it (and yourself) in front of whomever sold you the shonky pile of poo. That way they'll get the message and you'll feel better.

The good news is that if it's an ex press bike it'll have been remapped so you've got one of the better fuelled and fastest ones out there :)

Acerbic as usual, shame about the bit in brackets.
