Only had my R1200GS back yesterday from fuel pump failure and its gone wrong again!!!!

Switched ignition on this afternoon and the bike shows its in second when its in neutral. Bike will only start if I pull the clutch in. Switched ignition on and off several times, sometimes momentarily it indicates neutral, but as soon as its starts it thinks its in it 2nd.

So is this a record, bike back less then 24 hours from one warranty repair, to have another failure. I presume it will need the digital gear indicator sensor replacing?

I thing the R1200GS is a great bike, but my confidence in its reliability is being sorely tested, its only done 6,300 miles.

Thats not a bike problem, thats a dealer problem. Too coincidental not to be.

Was it raining?

The fuel pump is nowhere near the gear sensor so it's hard to see how the dealer could have messed it up, unless they were doing other work at the same time.

But the gear sensors are known to go wonky if they get wet, try giving it a good blast of WD40.

...no!! I noticed that the rear light cluster had failed (corrosion) when picking it up from having a new fuel pump :D

Good luck. I had a plague of similar problems with my 1st 04 GS. They were never really fully resolved. Get it back to the dealer sharpish.

The Gear Indicator Display...

The gear indicator display is intended to work and say the right thing? :nenau

I thought it showing nothing when I was in gear was normal! What's a little disconcerting is when you are in fourth and suddenly the gear indicator display goes blank (just for a moment I can hear Clint Eastwood saying, "Do you feel lucky punk?"). Now I ride without looking at the gear indicator display, I trust the revs more than the electronics.

Still, something else to note and mention when it goes in for the 6K service. :tears

Had the same trouble with my gear indicator. Dealer said the connection had just come loose and he removed it,cleaned it and pushed it back on. Now working fine.

Fixed!

Bike now fixed by N. Oxford BMW this morning, new digital gear sensor fitted. Hoped that would be it for visits to my friendly BMW dealer, but no. Next its back for the ABS recall, which I understand involves fitting restrictors in the front caliper banjo bolts, curious!
