Another foray into Europe on many wheels!

Come on Gerry! If you must get high in Vienna, there's only one place to go. Here's the lines to recite ...

I've mulled over these posts and am no further forward.. :D

Back to the hotel to regroup(sadnap) and out again, smartened up...put a tie on..to Karlskirche for some cultural enlightenment..

Pleased to see that they've turned off the Welsh shite...sorry, art installation, for tonight's function...

And it was indeed a stupendous production..a 9 piece orchestra, 8 strings and a harpsichord, doing Vivaldis 4 seasons with an amazing male counter tenor singer.
They used to produce male counter tenors, their Italian name, Castrati, gives a clue. I never expected such notes to come from a geezer!
The lead violinist was as hot as fuck; now I don't know whether to think of hot copperettes with weapons or hot birds with violins...decisions decisions.
An amazing evening in a superb setting...you had to be there.
Now back to set the alarm for 0430....useless German railway cretins...
Still, now that the fool we have for a PM has given the unions all they want without removing any of their ludicrous working practises, I don't imagine it'll be long before our railways are as fucked as theirs
Hey ho...

0430 alarm, up and across to the station for a train at 0655.
On to that to discover first issue of the day!
The plan, as dictated by the dBahn app, was to go to Linz, change there for Passau, on a train leaving at 0738, and then to change on a train for Cologne.
Now they say that due to the storm damage, the train we are currently on will be late into Linz, so not getting the connection.
The nice guy wielding the ticket machine tells me that there is an hourly service to Passau, and then an hourly service into Cologne, so one way or another we should get there! Today!
All this because the simple leisurely journey from Vienna to Brussels, involving 1 change, booked weeks ago, has dissolved! Erses!

Well..uneventful journey into Linz, as predicted the connection was missed, but a coffee and a bun later we got the next one, which was a commuter stopping train.
The early morning mist has given way to sunshine.
The last time I passed through Linz we were on the bike travelling from Slovenia to Cesky Krumlov.
An hour in Passau and onto a smart ICE train towards Cologne. Initial relief at finding unreserved seats soon evaporated when 2 old German wifies told us the seats were reserved...their system had failed. Conductor matey arrived and I told him it was his problem not mine and we would happily move once he found us seats....which he did...all serene and calm for the next 6+ hours.
Another passenger told us that the famous storm had done mega damage, completely flooding a 7 km tunnel, and it will actually be months before it was fixed.
All very well but difficult to see how a disruption, although severe, in Austria, can be affecting trains all across Europe!
Whatever!
Even this sooper dooper express we are on in Germany is running late.....and it only started less than an hour ago!
We should get to Cologne, even if later than expected.

Excellent wi fi and power supply on most of these trains...awful how much we have let our lives revolve round these poxy gadgets! :D
giving you endless distractions from the haunted window to pass the time is cheaper than fixing the network
