Another foray into Europe on many wheels!

They want 28 Euros for a breakfast at the hotel for my Cologne trip.:yikes
Don't bother...plenty of places to get a bun and some juice for far less.
Hotel breakfasts are horrendously expensive, and there are usually plenty of alternatives in and around main stations.

Thats what me and our lass do but a bakery when off on the bike.

And back out the rabbit hole...a bright sunny morning in Europe, dull and grey in Kent.
Whizz through to St Pancras, and then into King's Cross for a Pret bun and coffee to while away a few minutes until the 1st class lounge will let us in at 10.
Used to spend half my life as a youngster here and hereabouts..Pa worked for BR at KX.
We are booked on to the 1200 KX to Inverness, getting off at Perth...The Highland Chieftan...shame there are not so many named trains these days...used to be loads...Flying Scotsman, Master Cutler, Talisman, Aberdonian, Elizabethan...all from a more romantic era of travel!
When I was very young, the station master, in a suit and bowler hat, was on the platform at 10am every morning to see off the Flying Scotsman...train as opposed to locomotive. Changed days!

Zooming north, back over Tyne..

Has to be said, the offering provided by LNER is far superior to anything else we have experienced in Europe.

Hills!
And better weather....out of Stirling now, getting better all the time!
Soon be back...looking forward to a dram, but have to wait until I've driven from dogs pal to home..

Or ripping off clientele?

driven by the greedy booking sites - they charge a commission, which has increased a lot in recent years, based on the room rate, so it is not in the interest of hotels to have an inclusive rate. You just have to be aware of the costs and decide if the total cost of a stay is worth it. This is no different to buying insurance, vehicles and other commodities where a basic price is given to get to the top of the comparison site then you find you have to add extras to get a suitable product.

France has rarely included breakfast in the room rate. I noticed this year that fewer German hotels now have breakfast included on the main booking sites. Although, if you go to the hotel's own website, you can sometimes find they had a similar rate to the booking sites that did include breakfast.

I am aware of everything you have pointed out; but thanks for the lesson.....👍

I presume a trip like this takes a lot of organising Gérard when you have decided on where you are going and everything is pre booked ?
More so than a bike trip.

Was thinking the same Gerard. I wouldn't know where to begin. My head would be on fire just contemplating it.

..impossible to see what's going on in amongst the heaving mass....lots of foreign johnnies as well!

Please say you're joking LOL as some people may think this is a very ironic comment. (Not me, I can see you've forgotten the "winking" smilie.) 😉
