Hey fellow GSrs.
Any input of my problem I’ve had for months would be great.

Facts:
1. Clutch micro switch works as I can start the bike in gear with clutch pulled in
2. Side stand switch works as bike cuts out when I gear and on side stand
3. Brand new OEM gear sensor switch potentiometer thing, has good ground cable to.
4. All gears indicate correctly when in the move

Issue:
I have no neutral light so unable to start the bike unless I pull clutch in and side stand up.
When on the move if I pull the clutch in the gear indicator disappears.

Any thoughts ?

Only thing I haven’t done as I do t have a scanner is try reset the values. But like I said they all indicate fine except for N. And I think the issue might lie with the clutch pull in and gear indicator blanking.

Thanks :)

Does it not have a separate Neutral switch? ( I was surprised to find that my modern car has a separate revering switch completely independent of the gear position indicator system. The gear indication goes off when the clutch is disengaged too.)

Not as far as I know

The gear position indicator on the back of the gearbox is a potentiometer.
After replacing this you should reset the adaptations and then run it through the gears holding it in each gear for a few seconds, select neutral before switching the ignition off and re starting it.
This may not cure your problem but is a recommended procedure.

waitee you haven’t stated which model you are talking about. There was an issue with earlier air cooled GS’s with water affecting the gear position switch , which were positioned perfectly just in front of the back wheel .
The bike didn’t know what gear it was in and lost neutral.
New switch and/ or plenty of silicone grease sorted that issue .
