I have started to feel vibration in my gearbox, particularly in 3rd and 4th gear from around 2600rpm up to 3000rpm. I first noticed it a couple of months ago when I was cruising along in 4th gear and initially put it down to something stuck to a tyre which is what it feels like. I soon realised when I changed up to 5th it disappeared, and so I started to run up and down the box looking for the rumble. I can also feel it in 3rd but it's a higher frequency than 4th, and really does feel like a stone stuck to the tyre or running over a set of road markings close together. It's very light and isn't that obvious, and unless you knew it was there I don't suppose you would feel it straight away, if the road surface is very rough you cant feel it the same it all blends together. I took it to the dealer who's technician took it up the road and returned back into the workshop where I watched him strip out the drive shaft and check the final drive. The keys were returned to me with the report that he could not fault the gearbox and I should take it for a ride to see if anything had changed. I got home and phoned them back to ask if the technician had experienced what I had described, which he admitted he had, but said some of them did that ?. I now have a technical query going on with BMW who up to now have tried to describe it away as gearbox harmonics ?. Anybody else with the same ?, I cant accept it myself, I'm a bit disappointed at the minute

Are you in touch with BMW HQ direct? If so can you give me a tel no. and or contact?

My bike does have a high frequency vibe at 2/3 rds revs but I live with it as it is thru' the seat not bars.

At the mo my bike has been back at the dealers for 6 weeks as they try and sort out creep in neutral and gear change problems......third attempt.

Roundincircles, have you tried in the past several weeks of winter inactivity, whilst your bike is in and out of the dealers, trying to find out for yourself?

No? What, you've not even asked your dealer who their boss is and how to contact them? That really is very poor.

How about Google? No, I guess you have been busy?

Try: 0870 50 50 160 which is BMW Customer Sevices or (as our US cousins say) write them at:

BMW (UK) Limited
Ellesfield Avenue
Bracknell
RG12 8TA

All above obtained from Google via an iPhone, standing in the street. Good luck with your battle with BMW, your bike sounds appalling and well below the high standards set for an around the world, premium priced, flagship vehicle.

Send a detailed email to [email protected]. You'll get a reply from a named cs exec within about 48 hours, and a case number. Once you've got a case number you are in play. Good idea to keep your dealer on side though, cc them on the correspondence.

I wrote them an email with my complaint, the dealer had already submitted a technical query, But I felt I needed to fire off something in writing to back it up. I got the address from there web site, and as already stated on here I got a reply from a customer service executive who got things moving a bit quicker. I'm now waiting for the technical engineer who has been talking with the dealer to contact me directly to explain his gearbox harmonics theory, I've yet to hear anybody else with the same problem.
