another "is this normal thread" 1150gs

well i got my gs 2001 abs in black with 30 thou on the clock
i love it its the first time ive ridden one today ,did about 90 miles and my god they handle well
anyway the question
i noticed when the bike arrived (it was delivered in a van)when it was on the centre stand both wheels were on he ground at the same time
now after riding it today its back wheel is now a few inches of the deck when on the centre stand
its hardly been used for a few years could this be it ?
any ideas ?
the handling seems far to good to have a knackered shock

very likely the floor of the van couldn't take the weight of the bike (almost a quarter tonne) all concentrated in one small area - where the stand was.

edit... (i reread your post) could be that as the bike hadn't been ridden for a while the shocks had settled and perhaps partially seized.. and simply by sitting on it you freed it up and alls back to normal.

if the shocks were knackered you would soon know about it.

as that appears not to be the case - I wouldn't worry about it. just 'one of those things'

sorry i didn't explain myself it was in my garage i noticed it not in the van
it hadn't dug in at tall its on a five inch concrete slab
and in the same place when i rechecked

does it 'sag' as you would expect when you sit on it and rebound when you take your weight off?.. any strange noises if you sit on it and 'bounce' the rear?

if not then - nothing at all to worry about. these bikes like to be used. all sorts of strange things start to happen if left 'stood' for a long time.

it seems to be working fine ,sag ,rebound etc
i thought it was lack of use but thought i should check as its the first shaft drive Ive owned

sort of .it was ratchet straped to the side of the van up to the wall rather than straped down on the shocks (to the floor )

i had a r1150 rockster that had both wheels on the ground when on the centre stand... in fact you could actually put it on the centre stand from the seated position ( actually still on the bike!!!) but it had taller gs shocks fitted to it but a standard centre stand.

on my r1100s the rear wheel is a little off the ground on the centre stand.



although the shocks work, are you aware if they have ever been changed. though that may not necessarily explain how it 'changed' height from arrival to after being ridden by you.

after 14 years of t120r bonnie ownership ,German engineering is ace
ive done about 150 miles in the last couple of days and the bonnie would be due a rebuild by now
and thanks mate so far im loving it ,there's a couple of things i want to sort
longer gear/brake pedals (on order),better mirrors ,and at some point a different seat as i find i tend to slide forward under braking (although it doesn't help when the place i bought it from polished the bloody thing)

I had wondered if the previous owner had perhaps had a standard stand put on the bike. Must e-mail him and ask.

Anyone know what size a standard centre stand is from the ground to the pivot point ?

Seat wise, you can lift the front versus back in the height options under the seat or pack the front bracket up a tad....

cheers mate ,id rather not have the seat any higher than the low setting and i dont think i can lower the back can i ?
