Greg at Pension Roseneck just stuck this up, the photographer from the RiDE magazine test that took place in the Harz this week, currently winging it's way to Kassel. Apprantly been working fine then came to fire it up this morning and nothing. I'm right in thinking there was a service advisory or recall of sorts for the battery?

Probably tempting fate but it is surprising how few LC's have reported as needing recovery compared to the earlier models.

Mines got almost 9k on it now since June when I collected it (hardly stellar mileage), and it let me down once with the knackered starter button in Austria, but other than that it's been fine. Not sure it's a bike I'd want to own outside of warranty though :)

I picked up my 6000 mile, one previous owner 1200 TE last week. Rode back home which took over 3 hours. Left it in garage for 4 days, wheeled it out and thing was dead. No power or dash lighting up. Called BMW assist number and guy in a van turns up. Takes battery out, checks it, puts a bit of a charge in it, checks it again, puts it back in bike and off I go!
Will see if it starts tomorrow morning as haven't ridden it for 4 days again.

Hi, there was a rework & they changed batteries on certain bikes, might be worth checking if yours had or needs the battery changing..

Well guess what's just happened. Wheeled my TE out just now to go on the Norfolk Trosh and dam thing is dead. No dash, no power. Again bike has been left for 4 days in a garage. Same thing happened last week. Bod comes out, checks battery, puts a small charge in battery and off I go. Use it for 4 consecative days and it's fine. Leave it alone for 5 days and it's dead. Now waiting on the same bod to turn up and do the same. But if he does get it going I'll ride it to Lind and dump it there. Really really peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed off. Only bought the bike on the 15th September!! 6000 miles and dealer serviced. What's going on.
Had a K4 Gixer 750 that stayed outside under a cover for several winters; no charger fitted and it started first time after no use for 3 months. They were cold winters too. BMW are not in my good books.

How frustrating :(

Frustrating doesn't even cover it. Had an 11 plate Multistrada Sport Touring before and thought this bike would be more reliable!!! Starting to miss the Mutley :blast

Tis what happens when you buy Chinese :( my bike has been off the rd for 4 months now and i wish it had only been a battery issue .

The days of ducati being unreliable are long gone, I'm afraid there's a new kid on the block !

Frustrating, for sure. Phone the dealer while you're waiting for recovery this morning, tell them how unhappy you are, and get them to pop a new battery in, while you wait TODAY.

There is a service bulletin, so they'll do it without too much of a struggle.:thumb

When the start failure happened the first time they rang local dealer to see if they had any spare batteries; they didn't. Maybe now after a week they do!
Am now waiting for bike to be trailered to Lind. Bod got mine started and drove off as I was going to ride it to dealer. Got 4 meters down road then bike dies. Called BMW again to call back guy. 20 minutes later he turns up, jumps battery, bike fires up then hunts revs all over the place. Rev needle sticks all up and down the rev range so he says somethings up and I am now waiting for a trailer to take the pile of poo to local dealer

That ain't good. Make sure the dealer lends you a bike so you can still go to the Trosh.

I think I will wait a bit longer before I jump in to buy one. I was 50/50 a month ago now I'am 20/80 against , so will keep my 2 year old 1200tc which has never missed a beat.

Still haven't calmed down yet so not very good company at mo. Lind rang me to say they've put battery on charge; minimum 4 hrs needed before they'll run through the checks on it to see what's what, what.
Deep breaths, deep breaths..........

Hi Biot..
A week from buying it used, & first week it lets u down with duff battery, then 2nd time battery dead, I would suggest they put a new battery on regardless of whatever they find, deeply discharged batteries are not good for them limping term..
Has anyone fitted a sat nav or similar that's flattening the battery.?
Just a thought..

The more I read the more certain I am that I wouldn't touch a 2013/14 LC with a barge pole.

Stop Reading, go out and try / buy one Ive had two and love em, I had one of the first batch 2013 and did 12000 miles in 10 months great bike, so good I sold it and brought a 2014 GSA, same again brilliant had it 5 months so far and done 9000 miles.

Terry

I had battery issues on a 2011 bike. My problem was I left the bike parked up for a month with the steering lock / immobiliser on and this killed the battery.

Luckily it was still in the two year warranty, so got a replacement battery.

Had no issues with my 2013 LC.
