Another one on a truck

I think I will wait a bit longer before I jump in to buy one. I was 50/50 a month ago now I'am 20/80 against , so will keep my 2 year old 1200tc which has never missed a beat.

That'll teach 'em.:thumb:rolleyes:

I agree with snaponphil, whenever a vehicle battery is fully discharged even charging it won't help for long - its just waiting for more trouble. A new battery is probably needed. (I've had this 2 or 3 times on my bikes, and always the same result).

Sorry to hear bad woes & biot missed the trosh (was good :jager ) battery's can go at any time,my van one went last weekend been fine before & charging didn't help cel/s had died was only giving 10.5 volts.

Maybe bmw systems don't like dead batts reason it was hunting about hope it gets sorted soon.

If they are anything like the standard 1200's, once the battery starts to go it won't do anything and just dies. I would swallow the cost and get a motobatt or similar which won't let you down.

I know you shouldn't have to blah blah blah but sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns and so something yourself to get over the issue.

why not just jump the bike and ride ?

and buy a new battery along the route ?

I have not had any issues with the battery on my water GS.

Nonetheless , it is also correct that there were some batteries replaced as part of a "recall".

Perhaps check whether your battery needs replacing.

Hi,

I had the same issue with a new TE brought in March, exactly the same as you the bike was in the garage for 4/5 days and it was dead, only 6 days old, dealer came and collected it and sorted battery out.

Same thing happened a month later, but I this time it was a bit of a panic as I was fully loaded and ready to set off to Portsmouth for Ferry to Spain, fortunately I had tried the bike on the drive 2 hours before I was due to set off and it was dead. Dealer was as helpfull as they could be and got their driver to jump on a bike and deliver a new battery 60miles. He turned up changed the battery and of I went, just made it to ferry with 4 minutes to spare. I was using a Tom Tom with the power socket and wondered if it was draining power so I unplugged it every night.

Touch wood once the battery was changed I had no further issues, BMW were limited in what they tell dealers but I got the impression they had a few issues with a certain type of battery, seems like they source batteries from a few different suppliers.

Might be worth getting them to change the battery and not sure if it's related but unplug any devices if you use the power socket, the power socket is supposed to stop powering devices after 1 minute after the bike is switched off, however I have read that if you don't switch the device off the bike can still try powering the device. I'm no electrician so that might no be the issue.

Good luck, once it's going you will soon forget and enjoy this cracking bike

Steady on Bilks. That sounds too much like common sense. These are folk that call out recovery for a flat battery.......at home !

A stop N go repair kit and a pump would have saved the recovery :)

Sent using random stabs with bratwurst like fingers...

This is going to go the distance now, as someone will ask about which battery charger and how to connect it :)

Let's nip it in the bud, any reputable charger, aldi, Oxford, check, optimite etc, connected directly to the battery :)

Fault with my bike according to dealer is an EWS error showing on dash (i never saw it). It got recovered there after 2nd start failure. Used it over a weekend, put in garage, 5 days later wheeled out and dead.
New immobiliser ring being ordered from Germany (7 to 10 day wait). Which is now part of ignition barrel assembly apparently!!!? So top yoke bolts have to be drilled out for yoke to be removed so barrel can be removed.
Only had the bike since 15th September
