Hi All,
I believe this is my first thread here, so go easy on me if any comments.
Thinking that my 5.9 height would be a serious issue while test driving a magnesium colored Adv yesterday, I can tell you all that it was one of the most relaxed rides I had so far.
Asked the dealer to swap the Adv seat to a regular GS seat + low position. Leaning towards the tank I could flat foot both feet. I think I also should simply try the regular seat in low. (have bmw Pro-Touring boots) Piece of cake.
Compared to my current 2006 F800ST, the tank and plastics around it shake noticeably. Drove away slowly, playing around with 2-3 gear for 5 minutes, and before I knew it I steered the mighty pig into twisties from right to left and over road bumps as if they were not there.
The view is great high up there. You have a greater sense of safety when peeking over the roof of cars, or through windows of SUV's. Lovely !
Stability is marvelous, no other words. I found the GSA easy to control a slow speed or manouvre around corners and other obstacles.
Not too impressed with the sound of the standard muffler, but it was enough to raise awareness with other drivers I overtook.
The standard GS seat I had placed by the dealer was very comfortable. This can be more than enough for the longer rides. The rather vertical seating position proved very relaxed for my taste, I like it.
The handlebars feel to be a bit thinner than I have on my F800.
Changing gears is smooth, accompanied by these German engineered functional sounding clunks.
Final Verdict: Difficult to whipe that smile off after the ride, could get a potential buyer like me in trouble if noticed by the salesman. This is one hell of a machine for the roads. Will go on vacation in November and will be tempted to trade in my F800 straight afterwards. Time will tell, so keep looking in the "Let's see your 1200GS" thread to find me sooner rather than later. I salute the Bavarian pigs farm.
